Product Description
Snuggle into the ultimate cozy sweater with the Blue Sky Fibers Cloquet Pullover! With a relaxed fit, modified drop shoulders, and a gorgeous wheat-ear colorwork pattern, this comfy sweater also has sophisticated style. Techno yarn lends a lightweight feel to your finished sweater with its fluffy alpaca fibers blown into a silk tube, creating a warm and luxurious fabric. The Cloquet Pullover is knit in the round from the hem to underarms where the back and front are completed separately before joining at the shoulder with a three-needle bind-off. Sleeves are knit in the round form the bottom up and set into the armholes during finishing. Both the body and sleeves get beautiful focal points with the wheat ear pattern, a simple to work stitch that adds a big visual impact. For a sweater stylish enough for work or a special event that feels as cozy as a sweatshirt, the Cloquet Pullover will have you covered! Stitch pattern is both charted and written out.

Blue Sky Fibers Cloquet Pullover
What Is Being Made
The Cloquet Pullover is a women's crewneck sweater designed by Erin Oetker, inspired by dry fields blowing in the winter wind. This intermediate-level knitting project features high contrast colorwork and classic lines, offering a comfortable garment perfect for casual wear. The pattern is available in eight sizes ranging from Women's XS through 5XL, with finished chest circumferences from 31 inches to 67 inches and finished lengths from 25 to 28 inches. The design incorporates positive ease for a relaxed, comfortable fit suitable for layering or wearing on its own.
Techniques Used
This sweater is constructed using multiple knitting techniques to create a well-structured garment. The pattern employs bottom-up construction, meaning the body and sleeves are knitted from the lower edges upward. The body is worked flat on circular needles and then seamed together at the side seams, while the sleeves are worked in the round using double-pointed needles or circular needles for small circumference knitting. The standout design element is the stranded colorwork technique, specifically featuring the wheatear stitch, which creates striking visual contrast between two colors throughout the sweater. The neckband is also worked in the round for a finished edge.
Stitches Used
The primary stitch structure is stockinette stitch, which serves as the foundation for the garment's smooth fabric. The distinctive design element is the wheatear stitch, a colorwork pattern that uses the stranded technique with two contrasting colors to create textural and visual interest. The wheatear stitch is worked throughout the body and sleeves, while stockinette stitch provides the base structure. The pattern includes a Three-Needle Bind-Off technique for finishing seams, and the neckband is worked using standard knitting stitches in the round.
Materials and Yarn
The Cloquet Pullover is designed to be worked with Blue Sky Fibers Techno, a light bulky weight yarn. This yarn is composed of 68% Baby Alpaca, 22% Silk, and 10% Extra Fine Merino, creating a luxurious and soft fiber blend. Yardage requirements vary by size, with the smallest size (XS) requiring 7 hanks of the main color (Color A) and 1 hank of the contrast color (Color B), while the largest size (5XL) requires 13 hanks of Color A and 1 hank of Color B. Each hank contains 120 yards and weighs 50 grams.
Needles and Gauge
The pattern calls for multiple needle sizes and types to accommodate different sections of the sweater. For the body, a Size 9 (5.5mm) circular needle measuring 24 inches or longer is used, with the option to size up to a Size 10 (6mm) circular needle if needed to obtain proper gauge. The neckband uses a Size 9 (5.5mm) circular needle measuring 16 to 24 inches, while sleeves are worked on Size 9 (5.5mm) double-pointed needles or preferred small circumference needles, with the option to use Size 10 (6mm) needles as needed. The pattern gauge is 15½ stitches and 22 rounds over 4 inches in stockinette stitch using the main color yarn and the largest needles specified. Achieving proper gauge is essential for obtaining the correct finished measurements.
Color Options
The pattern showcases two colorway options. The color shown features Metro Silver (Color A, No. 1971) as the main color paired with Tranquil (Color B, No. 1988) as the contrast color for the wheatear stitch colorwork. These colors create the high contrast effect that makes the stranded pattern visually striking.
Additional Tools Required
Beyond needles and yarn, knitters will need a spare needle for the Three-Needle Bind-Off technique, stitch holders or waste yarn for holding stitches, stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats, locking stitch markers for marking specific points, and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and seaming the garment together.
