The garment features a ribbed lower edge that transitions into stockinette stitch before the main patterned section, resulting in a lightweight, wearable piece suitable for layering.

Knitting Techniques Used

This poncho is constructed using circular knitting in the round, which creates a seamless garment. The pattern begins with a cast-on of 324 to 404 stitches depending on size, worked on circular needles to establish the foundation. The construction involves strategic decreases worked into the patterned rounds to shape the garment as it progresses upward. Knitters will employ techniques including yarn forward increases (yfwd), various decrease methods such as knit two together (K2tog) and slip-slip-knit decreases (sl2K, K1, p2sso), and a special knot-making technique that creates textural elements by working multiple stitches into a single stitch before passing stitches over to form a decorative knot.

Materials and Tools

This project uses Rowan Summerlite DK, a lightweight yarn in a double knitting weight. Tension and Sizing
