Having difficulty finding some sport weight, machine washable yarn for sock making on my circular sock knitting machine, I gave this yarn a try. Wow, really nice, soft socks that knitted up with no problems whatsoever. I do not know how well they will wear or if they might pill, but after a couple washes, they seem just fine.

At the same time, I evaluated some Kroy Pattons yarn that was 75% wool, 25% nylon. The Kroy was a lighter, sport weight and the socks were not as soft, though they probably will wear better. I much prefer the Cascade 220 yarn.

I have knitted with Cascade 220 yarn in various weights for MANY years... both Superwash and "regular" wool, and have always been pleased with the results. That is no longer true!!! I am currently knitting a scarf/shawl with Cascade 220 Superwash Sport and I have never had a yarn shed and "fuzz" like this yarn is doing. My project looks like it's 20 years old and has been worn and washed too many times... and it isn't even off the needles yet. It looks so bad that I may never wear it, after untold hours of knitting. I see that the new Cascade dyelots now come from China instead of Peru, so maybe that is why this is the worst yarn I have knit with in 50+ years of knitting. I won't waste my time and money on this yarn again!

Comments about 6.25 220 Superwash Sport:

This is a lovely, soft yarn. It is not a yarn meant to hold up to moderate or heavy wear, though. I intended to use this yarn for a sweater for my adult son. I knit up a sleeve sample, machine washed it, and wore it for a day. It became quite fuzzy after the machine wash and began to pill within hours of wear. I knit up some more samples and machine washed them in a lingerie bag. They held up fine - no fuzzing or pilling.

I abandoned the idea of using the yarn for a sweater. But for a garment which gets only light wear, and will be laundered carefully, this yarn would be quite suitable.

I didn't take any stars off, as it seems to be a very good yarn, if used appropriately. In particular, it seems ideal for baby clothes.

This yarn just works for me when I do fair isle items like mittens. Find other yarn too thin or too scratchy. It just works.

This yarn is beautiful for weaving that favorite winter scarf! It felts mildly in a front loading washer and gets really soft.

I loved working with this yarn on the cardigan I'm knitting now. My last criterion is, does this yarn pill with wearing. We'll have to wait and see for that.

Comments about 6.25 220 Superwash Sport:

I used this yarn to make an afghan. It was easy to work with, and the colors were beautiful. It is very soft and snuggly - perfect to curl up with. Only bad thing is that it cannot go in the dryer. But I still think it is worth it. I would definitely buy this yarn again (in fact I have). Next time I am going to try it for a sweater.
