What is Being Made

Providence is a scoop neck pullover sweater designed by Deborah Newton and originally published in Inspired by Patchwork 1509. This intermediate-level knit features an asymmetrical color block design with stranded colorwork motifs worked along the color transition lines. The sweater is available in six sizes ranging from XS to 2XL, with finished bust measurements from 33½" to 51½" and lengths from 24¼" to 26½".

Techniques Used

Providence is worked flat on straight needles and features seamed construction, with individual pieces (back, front, and sleeves) knit separately and assembled. The design incorporates stranded colorwork, a technique where two colors are worked simultaneously across the fabric. The pattern notes emphasize proper tension management for the colorwork sections, recommending that knitters carry the unused color strand loosely across the wrong side of the work and twist it with the working yarn when necessary to avoid long floats that could catch during wear.
