Product Description
Classic Elite Yarns Rosamond Knit Sweater
What Is Being Made
Rosamond is a fitted V-neck knit sweater designed by Tonia Barry and originally published in Spring 2013 in the Mesa collection. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a classic pullover garment with a distinctive twisted rib panel running vertically down the center back and front, complemented by fitted sleeves also worked in rib. The sweater is available in six sizes ranging from XS to 2XL, with finished bust measurements from 30 inches to 52 inches.
Construction Techniques
Rosamond is constructed using a bottom-up, seamed, worked-flat method, a traditional approach that allows knitters to build the garment from the lower edge upward. The back and front pieces are worked separately in a flat panel construction before being seamed together. This technique provides excellent control over fit and allows for straightforward shaping at the armholes, neck, and shoulders.
The sweater features armhole shaping accomplished through bind-offs at the beginning of rows followed by decreases worked every other row to create a smooth, fitted curve. Neck shaping involves binding off the center stitches and working each shoulder separately to form the V-neckline. Shoulder shaping uses a stepped bind-off method, binding off stitches in multiple stages to create clean, angled shoulders.
Stitches and Stitch Patterns
The pattern features two primary stitches:
- Stockinette Stitch (St st): Used for the main body panels on either side of the center rib, creating a smooth, classic knit fabric
- Twisted Rib: A textured stitch pattern worked over an odd number of stitches using knit-through-back-loop (k1-tbl) and purl stitches. The Twisted Rib pattern is established as follows: Row 1 (RS): P1, *k1-tbl, p1; repeat from *. Row 2 (WS): K1, *p1-tbl, k1; repeat from *. This rib is used for the 2-inch cuff at the lower edge, the vertical center panel (17 to 27 stitches depending on size), and the fitted sleeves
The stitch pattern arrangement creates visual interest by combining the smooth texture of stockinette with the dimensional quality of twisted rib. The center rib panel measures 2 inches in length at the cuff before the main pattern is established.
Materials
Rosamond is designed to be knitted using Mesa yarn by Classic Elite Yarns. The pattern is worked on straight needles appropriate for the yarn weight and desired gauge, with construction worked flat rather than in the round. Specific needle size and yardage requirements are detailed in the complete pattern documentation.
This downloadable PDF pattern is intended for private use only and represents a professional design from an established yarn company known for quality yarns and brilliant design.
