What is Being Made

The Debbie Bliss Enya Socks are a pair of knitted socks designed to fit around the foot with finished measurements of either 20cm (7¾ inches) or 21.5cm (8½ inches) in circumference. These socks feature an elegant diamond lace pattern worked throughout, combining both practical construction with decorative stitch work suitable for intermediate knitters.

Knitting Techniques Used

The Enya Socks employ the technique of knitting in the round, which creates a seamless, tubular fabric ideal for sock construction. This method eliminates the need for seaming and allows for continuous circular knitting from cuff to toe. The pattern uses lace knitting as a primary decorative technique, incorporating yarn forward increases and decreases to create openwork diamond motifs throughout the sock.

The socks begin with a ribbed cuff cast on using the thumb or long tail method, which provides superior stretch and ensures the cuff will not be too tight when worn. The cuff is worked in a knit two, purl two (K2, P2) rib pattern repeated over 12 rounds to establish a comfortable, elastic edge. After the ribbed cuff is complete, the pattern transitions into the diamond lace design that decorates the leg and foot of the sock.

Materials and Tools

The Debbie Bliss Enya Socks require one 100-gram ball of Debbie Bliss Toast yarn in the Pool 06 colorway. This single ball of yarn provides sufficient yardage to complete both socks in either size.

For needles, knitters have flexibility in their choice of tools: either a set of 2.75mm (US 2) double-pointed needles or a 2.75mm (US 2) circular needle measuring 60-80cm in length can be used. Both needle options accommodate the in-the-round construction method.
