Deramores Poodle, Pug & Rottweiler Knitted Toys

What Is Being Made

This intermediate knitting pattern creates three distinct dog toys: a Poodle, a Pug, and a Rottweiler. Each finished toy measures approximately 21cm tall and is designed as a stuffed knitted figure. These are decorative toys and accessories, not suitable for children under 3 years due to small parts including safety eyes and buttons used in the designs.

Knitting Techniques Used

The pattern employs fundamental and intermediate knitting techniques suitable for crafters with some experience. Key techniques include:

  • Stockinette stitch as the primary fabric structure, creating a smooth, classic knitted surface
  • Increases using knit-front-and-back (kfb) and yarn over (YO) methods to shape the toy pieces
  • Decreases using knit-two-together (k2tog) and slip-slip-knit (ssk) techniques for shaping and finishing
  • Flat knitting construction, working pieces back and forth on straight needles rather than in the round
  • Assembly and finishing including stuffing, sewing pieces together, and attaching safety features

Stitches Used

The pattern uses essential knitting stitches including knit (K), purl (P), knit-two-together (K2tog) for decreasing, knit-front-and-back (kfb) for increasing, slip-slip-knit (ssk) for decreasing, and yarn over (YO) for lace increases. The primary fabric is worked in stockinette stitch, which alternates knit and purl rows to create the smooth finished surface characteristic of these toy designs.

Materials and Equipment

This pattern requires Deramores Studio DK yarn in five coordinating colors: Oatmeal (Yarn A), Chocolate (Yarn B), Ebony (Yarn C), Mist (Yarn D), and Pearl (Yarn E). One 100g ball of each color is needed to complete all three dogs. Knitting is worked on 3.75mm straight knitting needles, with a recommended tension of 22 stitches and 28 rows per 10cm square in stockinette stitch.

Additional materials include toy stuffing for padding the finished pieces, a darning needle for seaming and weaving in ends, 6 toy safety eyes measuring 12mm, and 3 buttons measuring 10mm for collar details. The DK (double knitting or light worsted) yarn weight creates appropriately sized finished toys suitable for display or gentle play.
