What is Being Made

Easby is an intermediate-level knitted sweater designed to fit chest measurements ranging from 71–76 cm (28–30 inches) through to 152–157 cm (60–62 inches). The finished garment features an actual chest measurement of 92.5 cm (36½ inches) at the smallest size, scaling up to 174.5 cm (68¾ inches) at the largest size. This pullover sweater incorporates decorative lace panels as a key design feature throughout the body and sleeves.

Knitting Techniques Used

The Easby sweater employs several intermediate knitting techniques to create its finished structure. Raglan shaping is used for the armhole and sleeve cap construction, denoted by marker placement that creates "seam" lines with 35–41 stitches at the centre of the row depending on size. Lace panel integration is a primary design element, with multiple lace panels positioned strategically across the garment. The pattern uses marker placement extensively to track raglan increases, lace panel positions, and stitch groupings, with red, yellow, green, and blue markers serving different functions. Circular needle knitting is employed for sections of the garment, allowing for seamless construction or flat working depending on the pattern stage.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The sweater features 12-stitch lace panels that are worked as repeating pattern rows. These lace panels appear in multiple locations: two pairs of panels positioned at the sleeves (marked with yellow markers), and additional pairs on the front and back body (marked with green and blue markers respectively). The lace panels are integrated into stockinette stitch fabric, creating contrast between the openwork lace and solid knit sections. Materials: Yarn and Needles

The Easby sweater is designed to be knitted using Rowan Kid Classic yarn, a 50-gram ball weight. The yardage requirement ranges from 6 balls for the smallest size up to 11 balls for the largest sizes. The pattern features a photograph of the sweater knitted in Sky Blue 915, showcasing how the lace panels appear in this colourway.

The pattern calls for multiple needle sizes to accommodate different stitch densities. 4½mm (US 7) needles are used for ribbed sections and finer gauge work, while 5mm (US 8) needles are used for the main body fabric at a looser gauge. Additionally, 4½mm (US 7) circular needles and 5mm (US 8) circular needles are required, each at least 90–170 cm long depending on the size being knitted, allowing for seamless construction of larger circumferences.
