Product Description
Eliot Cardigan & Scarf by Lisa Richardson
Cardigan Overview
The Eliot Cardigan is an advanced-level knitting project crafted from Rowan Felted Tweed yarn. This sophisticated garment combines colorwork techniques with structured shaping to create a fitted, elegant cardigan suitable for bust sizes ranging from 81–127 cm (32–50 inches).
Cardigan Construction & Techniques
The cardigan begins with a ribbed cuff worked on 3¼mm (US 3) needles using a two-row rib pattern (K2, P2 repeat). The design incorporates striped colorwork in the ribbed section, alternating between multiple yarn colors before transitioning to the main body. The body is worked on 4mm (US 6) needles and features Fair Isle colorwork throughout, with an 18-row pattern repeat worked entirely in stockinette stitch.
Cardigan Shaping & Structure
The garment features strategic shaping for a tailored fit. The back piece includes decreases at the side seams early in the body, followed by increases at intervals to create subtle shaping. Armhole shaping is achieved through cast-off stitches at the beginning of rows, with additional decreases to refine the armhole depth. The cardigan is available in five size options with corresponding stitch counts and finished bust measurements ranging from 91–131 cm (35¾–51½ inches).
Cardigan Yarn Specifications
The Eliot Cardigan uses Rowan Felted Tweed yarn in the following colors and quantities:
- Yarn A – Barn Red (193): 3–4 x 50gm balls depending on size
- Yarn B – Cumin (193): 1 x 50gm ball across all sizes
- Yarn C – Watery (152): 2–3 x 50gm balls depending on size
- Yarn D – Stone (190): 1 x 50gm ball across all sizes
- Yarn E – Carbon (159): 1 x 50gm ball across all sizes
- Yarn F – Cinnamon (175): 1 x 50gm ball across all sizes
Cardigan Stitches & Techniques
The primary stitches employed include ribbing (K2, P2), stockinette stitch, and Fair Isle colorwork. The Fair Isle technique is used to integrate the 18-row pattern repeat across the body, creating intricate color patterns while maintaining structural integrity. Shaping is accomplished through decreases worked at specific intervals and increases distributed evenly across rows to maintain pattern continuity.
Scarf Overview
The companion Eliot Scarf is designed to coordinate with the cardigan, offering a complementary accessory knitted from Rowan Felted Tweed in a coordinated color palette.
