I made the Tucked Pullover sweater designed by Quenna Lee and published in Knit Wear (fall/winter2013) with Coffee Bean Brown Silky Wool. It was really fun to work with and I absolutely love my finished sweater. It's lightweight but nice and warm and it layers well over blouses and tops. I was afraid I didn't have enough yarn to make the sleeves as long as I wanted, but found it easy to stretch them out during blocking. I was so impressed that I bought more in two different colors to make more sweaters. Can't wait to get started on them.

I purchased a ball of this at my LYS to swatch before ordering. Glad I did. It's classified as a DK, and it looks like about a DK -- until you knit it up. It's very lightweight, with a loose twist, so it knits up more as a fingering. This yarn would be ideal for a floaty, lacy scarf, but I wouldn't recommend it for a cozy sweater. That said, it's pretty, has a good hand, and the texture is just the teeniest bit pebbly. It knits up very evenly.

Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool:

Having never tried SilkyWool before, I wanted it for a springtime sweater, which I am just now finishing up (a "Woodfords'). Springtime can pose problems for me because April and May can sound like they should be warm, but I am often cold. I want to look like spring but not shiver. I think Silky Wool achieves this in that it is lightweight yet warm but does not look or feel wintery.

Although it's not cashmere in feel, and even a touch crunchy, it has been comfortable to knit with. Wet-blocking has made it softer and smoother -- which I like -- but has also made it grow even more than I expected -- which I don't like. Next time I use it, I will steam-block in order to smooth and soften the fabric with less growing.

I've used this yarn on several pullovers and friends have used it for many cardigans and tops. It has an amazing drape and I'm a big fan of tweedy yarns. This has that texture. The colors are wonderful. Knits up beautifully on a #6 or #7 needle for most of us.

Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool:

First, this yarn is a sport weight, definitely not a DK. Swatch on #4 needles (wooden Dream'z): Before blocking: 24 st x 32 r; after blocking: 23 st x 32 r.

That being said, fabric looks and feels wonderful! It is very light, not too dense nor too open, and shows lots of drape. Perhaps this tighter gauge might prevent garment from growing at blocking. The Manhattan Mist is a great neutral for summer.
