What is Being Made

The Felicity Slipover is a crochet vest garment designed to fit bust measurements ranging from 71–137 cm (28–54 inches). This intermediate-level project creates a sleeveless pullover top available in nine different sizes, with actual bust measurements of the finished garment ranging from 100–180 cm (39¼–70¾ inches). The slipover is photographed in Biscuit 048, showcasing the finished appearance of this classic vest design.

Techniques Used

The Felicity Slipover employs several key crochet techniques to construct the garment. The base of the piece begins with ribbed construction, which creates a structured waistband and provides elasticity and shape retention. The main body utilizes the double crochet spike stitch, a textured stitch pattern that creates visual interest and dimension throughout the piece. Armhole shaping is achieved through strategic decreases using the double crochet two together (dc2tog) technique, which reduces stitches gradually to form fitted armholes. Back loop only (BLO) construction is employed during the ribbed sections, which creates a distinctive ribbed texture by working into only the back loop of stitches rather than under both loops. Shoulder shaping is worked at the conclusion of the piece to create proper fit across the shoulders.

Materials and Tools

This project requires Rowan Merino Aria yarn in 50-gram balls. The yarn quantity varies by size, ranging from 9 balls for the smallest size to 13 balls for the largest size. A 7mm (US 10.75) crochet hook is used throughout the project. The pattern specifies two tension gauges: the ribbed sections should measure 17 rib stitches by 9 rib rows over 10 cm (4 inches), while the double crochet spike stitch should measure 13 stitches by 20 rows over 10 cm (4 inches), both worked with the 7mm hook. Achieving proper tension is essential for garment fit across all nine size options.
