What Is Being Made

The Giotto Top is a knitted pullover sweater designed by Irina Poludnenko. This garment features a classic fitted silhouette with color-blocking detail, combining two complementary yarn colors in marine blue and whitecaps (cream). The top is available in six sizes ranging from Small through 3X, with finished bust measurements from 37½ inches (95 cm) to 57½ inches (146 cm) and lengths from 21 inches (53.5 cm) to 26 inches (66 cm).

Techniques Used

The Giotto Top is constructed using bottom-up seamed construction, meaning the piece is worked from the hem upward and then seamed together. The garment is worked flat on straight needles rather than in the round, with the exception of the armhole and neckband edgings which are worked in the round using a circular needle. This traditional approach allows for precise shaping and color changes throughout the body of the sweater.

The finishing process involves seaming the front pieces together at the center, then joining shoulder and side seams while strategically leaving armhole openings. The armholes receive finished edgings picked up directly from the body, creating clean, professional edges. A neckband is also added using the circular needle.
