Product Description
Filatura Di Crosa Lucia Top
What Is Being Made
The Lucia Top is a knitted vest designed by Teresa Chorzepa, available in six sizes ranging from Small to 3X (bust measurements 35 to 60 inches). This garment features a fitted silhouette with lengths varying from 25 to 27½ inches depending on size. The top combines structural cable work with decorative eyelet details, creating a sophisticated layering piece suitable for various occasions.
Knitting Techniques
This pattern employs a bottom-up construction method, meaning the garment is knitted from the lower edge upward. The pieces are worked flat on straight needles rather than in the round, and the finished sections are seamed together to form the complete garment. Cable techniques are central to the design, with the pattern incorporating C4B (cable 4 back) stitches that create twisted rope-like textures throughout the fabric.
Decreasing techniques are strategically used to shape the body, employing methods such as k2tog (knit 2 together), ssk (slip, slip, knit), and p2tog (purl 2 together) to create fitted shaping at regular intervals. Eyelet decreases using yo (yarn over) combined with p2tog (purl 2 together) create decorative openings that add visual interest while contributing to the garment's structure.
Stitches Used
- Cable stitch (C4B): Slip 2 stitches to cable needle and hold in back, knit 2, then knit 2 from cable needle—creates the characteristic twisted cable texture
- Garter stitch: Knit on right-side rows and purl on wrong-side rows, producing a textured, reversible fabric
- Cable and Eyelet Pattern: The primary stitch pattern combines cables with yarn overs and decreases to create openwork details
- Decreases: K2tog, ssk, and p2tog are used throughout for shaping
- Yarn overs (yo): Create the eyelet details that punctuate the cable pattern
Materials and Gauge
The Lucia Top is designed to be knitted with Filatura Di Crosa TEMPO yarn, a blend of 51% cotton, 37% acrylic, and 12% polyamide. The yardage requirements range from 6 balls for the smallest size to 11 balls for the largest size, with each ball containing 1.75 ounces and 114 yards. The sample shown is worked in color #50 embers.
Knitting is worked on size 6 (4mm) needles to achieve a gauge of 17½ stitches and 22 rows over 4 inches in the Cable and Eyelet Pattern. A size 6 (4mm) circular needle measuring 16 inches is used for the neckband finishing. Additional tools required include a cable needle, stitch markers, and a yarn needle for seaming and weaving in ends.
