Product Description
Gaëlle MODE Sweater Collection by Georgia Farrell
What Is Being Made
The Gaëlle MODE Sweater Collection features a sophisticated knitted pullover sweater designed by Georgia Farrell. This intermediate-level garment is available in nine different sizes, ranging from 71-76 cm to 152-157 cm chest measurements, making it suitable for a wide range of wearers. The finished sweater features an actual chest measurement range from 116.5 cm to 198.5 cm, providing comfortable, relaxed fit options across all size grades.
Knitting Techniques Used
This sweater employs several key knitting techniques to achieve its finished construction. The garment uses chart-based patterning, with the front and back pieces worked following specific chart rows to create a coordinated design. Increases and decreases are strategically placed throughout the pattern, including knitwise increases and K2tog (knit two together) decreases used for shaping the neckline and creating the garment's silhouette. The pattern incorporates marker placement to help track pattern repeats and shaping points, particularly around the front neck area where precision is essential.
Shoulder shaping is accomplished through casting off stitches at the beginning of rows, with graduated stitch counts across the size range (from 6 to 12 stitches cast off). The front neck shaping is worked separately on each side, requiring careful stitch management and the use of stitch holders to maintain stitches while working different sections. The neckband is created using a circular needle, indicating a pick-up and knit technique for a finished neck edge.
Stitches Used
The Gaëlle MODE Sweater utilizes fundamental knitting stitches combined with patterned work. Primary stitches include:
- Knit (K) and Purl (P) stitches, which form the basis of the fabric
- K2tog (knit two together) for right-leaning decreases used in neck shaping
- Knitwise increases for strategic shaping and pattern development
- Ribbed knit and purl combinations (K1, P1 ribbing) for the neckband finish, which provides elasticity and a polished edge
- Chart-based patterning, which may include various stitch combinations worked over multiple rows to create the sweater's visual design
Materials: Yarn and Needles
The Gaëlle MODE Sweater is designed to be knitted using Rowan Summerlite DK yarn, a lightweight double-knit weight yarn. Yarn quantities vary by size, ranging from 10 balls (50g each) for the smallest size to 15 balls for the largest size, providing flexibility for different garment dimensions. The photographed version is shown in the colorway Favourite Denims 469, though the pattern is suitable for any Summerlite DK shade.
The pattern requires two needle sizes to achieve proper fabric structure and fit. 3¼mm (US 3) needles are used for the initial cast-on and ribbed sections, creating a tighter, more elastic fabric. 3¾mm (US 5) needles are used for the main body of the sweater, worked in pattern. A 3¼mm (US 3) circular needle no longer than 40 cm is required for working the neckband. The specified tension is 23½ stitches and 31 rows to 10 cm when measured over pattern using the 3¾mm needles, making accurate gauge essential for proper fit.
