The hat is designed to fit an average-sized adult woman's head with an approximate circumference of 44.5 cm (17½ inches). Both pieces feature sophisticated colorwork and texture, offering a cohesive, coordinated aesthetic for cold-weather wear.

Techniques Used

These intermediate-level projects employ multiple advanced knitting techniques to create their finished designs. The hat can be worked either flat on straight needles or seamlessly in the round using circular needles and double-pointed needles, offering flexibility based on knitter preference. The wrap similarly accommodates different working methods. Both pieces feature charted colorwork patterns that require careful stitch placement and pattern repeats. The hat construction includes crown shaping through strategic decreases, such as purl two-together (P2tog) reductions, to create the proper fitted silhouette. The use of stitch markers is essential for tracking pattern repeats and round beginnings when working in the round.

Materials

These projects are worked in MODE at Rowan Softest Alpaca, a luxurious yarn available in 50-gram balls. The pattern shown was photographed in the colorway Linen 015. The yarn requires needles in two sizes to achieve proper tension and construction: 5mm (US 8) needles are used for the initial ribbed sections, while 5.5mm (US 9) needles are used for the main patterned sections. For flat construction, straight needles in both sizes are required. For seamless in-the-round construction, knitters need 40cm circular needles in both sizes plus a set of 5.5mm (US 9) double-pointed needles for crown shaping when stitch counts become too small for circular needles.
