Can't write enough good things about this yarn. It's easy to care for, wash and wear, and is a godsend for those of us who live in warm weather year-round. It displays intricate stitching beautifully, and skinny yarns are more flattering on the body. The bamboo absorbs moisture, the silk gives it a sweet feel--and if you want a quicker knit, just hold it doubled!

Heard a lot about how great this yarn was and decided to try it. I am not impressed with it at all -- it is very, very splitty and the stitch definition is not great. While there are lots of colours to choose from, and the price is reasonable, it is not a yarn I will use again. It's enticing as it's a cotton fingering yarn -- however, I will stick to merino blends or acrylic blends for socks.

Comments about HIKOO CoBaSi:

I am currently knitting socks from this yarn for my daughter-in-law who prefers not to have wool socks. It has beautiful definition although the gauge is quite tight (14 rows/inch with size 1 needles).
I have also used it to knit toys where it worked especially well with the vivid colors.

This yarn makes great fabric, although it can knot up easily it still was pretty easy to crochet with. Highly recommend for creating a light garment.

Good alternative to wool sock yarns

By

Comments about HIKOO CoBaSi:

This yarn is a good choice for someone who's looking for an alternative to wool sock yarns. Noro carried a cotton sock yarn last year that I absolutely adored, but I couldn't find it this year, so decided to try this CoBaSi. I loved the choice of color, and the blend, which, if I remember correctly, is cotton and nylon. I wanted a sock that would keep its shape a little bit better than my wonderful Noro socks, and the socks my mother is currently knitting for me certainly do just that. As I always cast these socks on for her, though, I noticed that that the yarn splits, like, a lot. I don't ever comment on splitting, because I NEVER have a problem with it, no matter the yarn, I always manage to get a clean stitch. My mother thinks it's no big deal, and I'm sure I would have adjusted to the yarn, too, but if splitting bothers you, I would go with another yarn.

Hit or Miss

Comments about HIKOO CoBaSi:

Pros:
- Great hand, especially after washing
- Machine washable with not a lot of shrinkage (still test your gauge swatches, though)
- Color holds up well after washing

Cons:
- I bought 8 skeins for a project and two of them were overspun badly, even after compensating for the overspin by winding them in the opposite direction and then pulling from outside the caked ball. The first one was my gauge swatch (it was a detailed swatch and used a full skein) and the second was at the bottom of my tee, so my swatch was tougher to read than usual and the bottom of my tee swings to the right. The rest of the garment looks great and drapes gorgeously.

This is a really beautiful yarn. The purple is deep with light variations throughout. A great yarn for summertime shawls and coverups. I highly recommend.

Pros

  • beautiful drape
  • rich deep colours

Cons

  • heavy for a summer top

Best Uses

    Comments about HIKOO CoBaSi:

This yarn is heavier than what I had intended, so I will be looking for a more suitable pattern. It splits, but ceases to be a problem with sharper-pointed needles. The colour is rich with great depth, good stitch definition and a wonderful, drapey hand

    Comments about HIKOO CoBaSi:

I bought this yarn to make summer socks. After knitting the first pair striped with two colors, I decided to order more and dye it. I haven't tried that yet, so more to come...The pair of socks I've completed held its shape when worn and did very well with machine washing and drying. The yarn is very soft and pleasant to knit and to wear. I would definitely buy it again!
