Imerovigli Pullover in Juniper Moon Farm Dromedary

What is Being Made

The Imerovigli Pullover is a striped knit sweater designed by Kathleen Dames as part of the Santorini Collection. This intermediate-level pullover is available in seven sizes ranging from 28 inches to 52 inches bust circumference, making it suitable for a wide range of body sizes. The pullover features a classic crew neck construction with set-in sleeves and a body worked in the round using the top-down method.

Yarn and Materials

This design calls for Juniper Moon Farm Dromedary yarn, a premium fiber choice. The pattern uses three coordinating colorways of this yarn:

  • Main Color (MC): 2 to 3 skeins of Juniper Moon Farm Dromedary in color #02 Sand Stones, depending on size
  • Contrast Color 1 (CC1): 2 to 3 skeins of Juniper Moon Farm Dromedary in color #05 Grizzly River
  • Contrast Color 2 (CC2): 1 skein of Juniper Moon Farm Dromedary in color #09 Falling Springs

Each skein weighs 100 grams. The pattern requires a US 8 (5mm) circular needle measuring 40 inches in length, along with stitch markers, waste yarn or stitch holders, and a tapestry needle for finishing.

Techniques Used

The Imerovigli Pullover employs several key knitting techniques. The garment is constructed using top-down seamless construction, which allows for easy fitting adjustments and minimal finishing work. The body is worked in the round using a circular needle, creating a seamless fabric. Sleeve increases are worked as the sleeves are knitted, using strategic increase placements to shape the armholes and sleeve caps. The pattern incorporates striping throughout the design, alternating between the three yarn colors to create visual interest. The Magic Loop technique is recommended for knitting the sleeves in the round, though this is optional depending on knitter preference and experience level.

Stitches Used

The primary stitch pattern is Stockinette stitch, which creates a smooth, classic fabric with knit stitches on the right side and purl stitches on the wrong side. The gauge for this pattern is 16 stitches and 24 rows per 4 inches (10 centimeters) when worked in Stockinette stitch. Shaping is accomplished using several fundamental increase and decrease techniques:

  • m1L (make one left): A backward loop increase worked on the right needle to add stitches
  • m1R (make one right): A backward loop increase twisted in the opposite direction of m1L for a different visual effect
  • ssk (slip, slip, knit): A left-leaning decrease that removes one stitch
  • k2tog (knit two together): A right-leaning decrease that removes one stitch

These basic stitches combine to create a garment with clean lines and professional shaping.

Construction Details

The pullover begins with a cast-on of 112 to 208 stitches depending on the desired size, using Contrast Color 2. The initial rows are worked back and forth in flat knitting before joining to work in the round. The striping pattern alternates between the main color and contrast colors as the garment progresses. Sleeve increases are worked at regular intervals, with the number of increase rounds varying by size—ranging from 8 increases for the smallest size to 16 increases for the largest size. This results in finished sleeve cap stitches ranging from 38 to 66 stitches. The sleeves are worked until they reach a length of 16½ to 19½ inches, depending on size, maintaining the established stripe pattern throughout.
