This yarn is fantastic. I craft primarily for my Prayer Shawl Ministry and usually make shawls with Lionbrand Homespun. I will now be exclusively using this Marble Chunky. The size is great for quick finish projects and the length is almost twice a standard bulky skein. The yarn is very soft with a slight halo but knits and crochets up beautifully. The best thing is that you can do detailed crocheted patterns by using the eyes of the stitches and not just the holes between. I was unable to do this with LB Homespun. I would recommend this to anyone wanting beautifully striped items that are soft to the touch and very comfortable to wear and easy to care for.

I loved the color of the James C. Brett Marble Chunky; I got the Summer Green. It had a very subtle color play of different shades of green. I had planned to make a shawl that would go with lots of my wardrobe.

Unfortunately, I found it to be somewhat coarse. This may have been improved by washing and drying; I don't know. But I found it to also be very splitty. The problem got so bad that I don't think I will be able to knit with it. And it's a real shame, because I really loved the color (not to mention lots of the other Marble Chunky colors). I just wasn't able to work with it.

Z twisted--Crocheter's DREAM yarn!

Comments about James C. Brett Marble Chunky:

This is a "Z" twist yarn, which is the reason knitters complain about it. The Z twist tightens as you crochet, loosens when you knit--according to knitting experts.

I discovered a Z twist yarn (Lion Brand tweed stripes at JoAnn's--also made in Turkey) and fell in love with it. When I found a cuffed cape pattern that used James C Brett Marble chunky, the yarn colors looked the same, so I took a chance. It IS the same. I crochet with it exclusively for the cape and have a hard time trying to decide what to do with the other yarns I have. "S" twist yarns "work" but are not as "sturdy" or luxurious feeling.

Comments about James C. Brett Marble Chunky:

I have used two different color ways with this yarn, and it is a high-quality acrylic in my opinion. I've mostly used it for good quality easy-care blankets--one crochet, one knit. That said, the last two skeins I got have been extremely tangled. I haven't been able to get a good center-pull going in either (one is completely finished, I've been working the second for enough rows to question it's winding too). It's to the point where I've had to forcibly pull the yarn apart several times where it has fused together, causing a tangle.
*fyi, and not part of my rating: although this is a large-lot acrylic, the dye lots are different. The two extra I bought last month are different from the ones I got a couple of years ago in the same color way. They look the same but knit up differently. I understand that this is to be expected, but if you take a chance like I did, don't be surprised.

Kudos to WEBS - I bought this at the warehouse and later decided I needed another skein and they found the same dye lot!!! Awesomeness!

Comments about James C. Brett Marble Chunky:

This yarn is soft and easy to crochet, with lovely long color changes that make for beautiful motifs. It hides small errors easily, but if you do have to pull out a mistake, you must do so slowly and carefully or it will knot up. I like to use a variety of colors in each of the crocheted flowers of the afghan, but they easily flow together to give an impression of one of Monet's waterlily paintings. People who see the completed afghans love them.
