What is Being Made

Techniques Used

This project employs several key knitting techniques to create its finished pieces. The hat and wristlets are both worked bottom-up, meaning construction begins at the lower edge and progresses upward toward the top. The pieces are seamless in their primary construction, though finishing seams are added after the main knitting is complete. While the pattern name suggests circular construction, these pieces are actually worked in rows rather than continuously in the round, which allows for easier pattern management and shaping. The hat features strategic decreases at the crown to shape the top, with decreases worked evenly across the piece and then repeated at regular intervals to create a fitted closure.

Stitches Used

The Borghild pattern incorporates several fundamental stitches and stitch patterns. Ribbing forms the foundation of both pieces, using a basic 1x1 rib (alternating knit and purl stitches) that provides stretch and structure at the cuffs and lower edges. The main body features a zigzag pattern worked from a chart, which repeats across 10 stitches plus 11 additional stitches and spans 16 rows. This charted pattern is repeated multiple times—three times on the hat and twice on the wristlets—to create the Nordic visual interest. Materials

The Borghild Hat and Wristlets pattern calls for 2 x 50g balls of Juniper Moon Farm Fourteen yarn in color 12 Oasis.
