What Is Being Made

The J'adore is a quilted knit jacket designed by Karen Boykin Findley as part of The Pondicherry Collection. This cardigan features distinctive quilt patterning across the body and sleeves, combining classic styling with textured warmth. The jacket is available in seven sizes ranging from XS to 3X, with finished chest measurements from 32¾ inches (83 cm) to 53¾ inches (136 cm) and lengths from 23¼ inches (59 cm) to 27¾ inches (70.5 cm).

Techniques Used

This jacket is constructed using a bottom-up knitting method, meaning the pieces are worked from the lower edge upward. The garment is worked flat on circular needles rather than in the round, allowing for seaming. The finished pieces are then seamed together to create the complete jacket. The combination of these techniques provides excellent shaping control and allows for the intricate quilted stitch pattern to be executed precisely across the body and sleeves.

Stitches Used

The J'adore features two primary stitch patterns that work together to create its distinctive appearance:

• Stockinette Stitch: Used for the main fabric of the jacket, providing a smooth, classic knit surface. This stitch is worked at a gauge of 24 stitches and 32 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) when yarn is held double.
• Royal Quilting Stitch: The signature stitch that creates the quilted texture on the body and sleeves. This stitch pattern works over a multiple of 6 stitches plus 5, and is worked at a gauge of 32 stitches and 32 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) when yarn is held double. The Royal Quilting Stitch is constructed by alternating rows worked in the main color (MC) with rows worked in the contrasting color (CC), incorporating slipped stitches and strategic needle insertion under loose strands from previous rows to create the three-dimensional quilted effect.
• Half Linen Stitch: An additional stitch pattern used in the design, worked over an odd number of stitches. This stitch combines slipped stitches with knit and purl stitches to create a textured, refined edge detail.

Materials

The J'adore is designed to be worked with Juniper Moon Farm FindLey yarn held double throughout the project. The yarn requirements vary by size: the main color (MC) requires 3 to 5 balls depending on size, using FindLey in color #40 Sea Green. The contrasting color (CC) requires 2 balls of FindLey in color #36 Deep Blue. Construction uses US 3 (3.25 mm) circular needles in either 24-inch (60 cm) or 32-inch (80 cm) lengths, or the size needed to obtain the specified gauge. Additional notions include a tapestry needle for seaming and weaving in ends, a tape measure for checking finished measurements, stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and shaping, and scrap yarn or stitch holders for securing stitches during construction.
