Juniper Moon Farm Zeynep Wrap

What Is Being Made

The Zeynep Wrap is a generous triangular shawl designed by Claudia Wersing as part of the Summer Vibes Collection. This seamless, flat-worked wrap features finished measurements of 63 inches in length and 55 inches in width at the bind-off edge, making it a substantial accessory perfect for layering or draping.

Techniques Used

This wrap is constructed using seamless knitting worked flat on straight needles, beginning with a small cast-on and expanding through strategic increases. The design employs yarn-over increases worked on right-side rows to create the triangular shaping. The wrap features color changes worked every 2 rows, always made on right-side rows after the selvedge stitch, allowing for a gradient or striped effect using two complementary yarn colors. Garter stitch finishing is used for the final three rows before binding off.

Stitches Used

The Zeynep Wrap features a Shadow Knitting Pattern as its primary stitch pattern, which repeats over 20 stitches. The pattern chart shows rows 1 through 48, with rows 45-48 repeated thereafter to maintain the pattern repeat throughout the garment. Key stitches include:

  • Knit stitches (k) forming the foundation of the fabric
  • Purl stitches (p) creating texture variation
  • Knit through the back loop (k1 tbl) used for yarn-over stitches on wrong-side rows
  • Yarn overs (yo) creating decorative increases and lace elements
  • Selvedge stitches slipped purlwise on right-side rows and knit on wrong-side rows for neat edges

Materials

The Zeynep Wrap is knitted using Juniper Moon Farm Cumulus Rainbow and Juniper Moon Farm Cumulus yarns. The pattern calls for 2 balls of Cumulus Rainbow in color 204 Pacific Sky (color A) and 2 balls of Cumulus in color 23 Toucan Bay (color B), with each ball weighing 100 grams. Size US 10/6mm knitting needles are required to achieve the specified gauge of 13 stitches and 23 rows over a 4-inch square in the Shadow Knitting Pattern. The wrap is finished with careful blocking to achieve its final dimensions and drape.
