Product Description
Juniper Moon Farm Nadya Slipover
What is Being Made
The Nadya slipover is a sleeveless vest-style garment designed by Claudia Wersing as part of the Winter Breeze Collection. This knitted slipover offers a versatile layering piece available in five sizes ranging from Small to 2X-Large, with finished bust measurements from 35½ inches (90cm) to 51 inches (130cm). The garment features a classic silhouette with a finished length to shoulder of 24½ inches (62cm), making it suitable for wearing over long-sleeved shirts or as a standalone piece during mild weather.
Techniques Used
The Nadya slipover employs several key knitting techniques to construct the garment:
- Bottom-up construction: The vest is worked from the bottom edge upward, beginning with cast-on stitches at the lower edge of the back piece
- Worked flat: The main body pieces (back and front) are knitted flat using straight needles rather than in continuous rounds
- Worked in the round: Circular needles are used for certain sections of the pattern
- Seamed assembly: Individual pieces are knitted separately and then seamed together to create the finished garment
- Armhole shaping: Decreases are strategically placed to create fitted armholes, using techniques such as K1 below (knitting one below) and double decreases like K3tog and p2sso (pass 2 slipped stitches over)
- Neck shaping: The back neck features shaping through cast-off stitches to create a comfortable neckline opening
Stitches Used
The Nadya slipover features a textured stitch pattern that creates visual interest and dimension:
- K1 below (knit one below): The primary stitch technique used throughout the pattern, where the needle is inserted through the center of the stitch one row below and knitted in the usual way, with the stitch above slipped off the needle simultaneously. This creates a distinctive textured effect
- Purl stitches: Used in alternation with the K1 below stitches to create the overall pattern structure
- Knit stitches: Standard knit stitches used for shaping rows and pattern transitions
- Decrease stitches: K2tog (knit two together), K3tog (knit three together), and p2sso (pass 2 slipped stitches over) are used to shape the armholes and create the fitted silhouette
Materials
The Nadya slipover is worked using Juniper Moon Farm Beatrix yarn in the colorway 05 Marble. The yarn quantity required varies by size: Small and Medium sizes require 6 balls of 50-gram weight each, Large size requires 7 balls, and X-Large and 2X-Large sizes require 8 balls per size. The total yardage accommodates the bottom-up, seamed construction across all five size options.
Needles required include US 13/9mm straight knitting needles for working the flat pieces and a US 13/9mm circular needle for sections worked in the round. The pattern specifies a gauge of 9 stitches and 22 rows over a 4-inch (10cm) square when worked with the US 13/9mm needles in the stitch pattern, which is important for achieving the correct finished measurements.
