The Jocelyn shawl is a top-down, seamless knitted wrap from the Pasadena Collection, designed by Melissa Leapman. This elegant accessory measures approximately 67 x 22 inches (170 x 56 centimeters) when blocked, making it a versatile triangular or crescent-shaped shawl suitable for layering or draping.

Techniques Used

This design employs several advanced knitting techniques to create its distinctive structure and visual appeal:

• Top-Down Construction: The shawl begins at the top with a stockinette stitch tab, allowing the knitter to work downward toward the finished edge
• Seamless Knitting: The entire piece is worked as one continuous fabric without seams, creating a unified, polished garment
• Worked Flat: Despite using circular needles, the shawl is worked back and forth in flat rows rather than in the round
• Lace Patterning: Intricate lace motifs are incorporated throughout, including a prominent center panel featuring yarn overs and decreases that create openwork designs
• Perpendicular Edging: A knit-on lace edging is worked perpendicularly to the live stitches of the main shawl body, adding a refined finished edge
• Shaped Increases: The shawl's distinctive silhouette is formed by increasing 4 stitches on every right-side row, creating the triangular expansion

Materials and Gauge

The Jocelyn shawl is designed to be worked with Juniper Moon Farm Zooey yarn in color 56 Morganite. The project requires 3 balls of 100-gram weight yarn, providing ample yardage for the complete shawl.

Needles and tools required include a US 6/4mm circular needle measuring 32 inches long, a set of US 6/4mm double-pointed needles, and a US H-8/5mm crochet hook used specifically for the provisional cast-on method. Waste yarn is also needed for the cast-on process.

The center panel of the shawl measures 6¾ inches across and achieves a gauge of 29 stitches over 6¾ inches horizontally and 29 rows over 4 inches vertically when blocked. The pattern notes that achieving exact gauge is not critical to the success of this project, allowing for some flexibility in execution.
