What is Being Made

This downloadable PDF pattern from Juniper Moon Farm's Vintage Collection features two coordinating projects: a fitted knit hat and a shaped cowl, both designed by Lynette Meek. The hat offers a classic silhouette with a finished circumference of 20 inches (51 centimeters), while the cowl features an elegant asymmetrical design with shaped edges that measure approximately 30 inches (75 centimeters) around the outer edges and approximately 50 inches (125 centimeters) around the inside center after blocking.

Techniques Used

Both projects employ sophisticated knitting techniques suitable for intermediate to advanced knitters. The hat is worked in the round using circular needles, creating a seamless construction that eliminates the need for seaming. The cowl combines multiple construction methods, utilizing bottom-up construction with a provisional cast-on technique and incorporating lace patterning throughout. Hat Requirements:

Cowl Requirements:

• Size US 10 (6mm) circular needles, 24 inches (60 centimeters) long
• Size G6 (4mm) crochet hook
• Smooth waste yarn for provisional cast-on

The hat is worked to a gauge of 15 stitches over 4 inches (10 centimeters) in pattern using US 9 (5.5mm) needles when worked in the round. The cowl is worked to a gauge of 13 stitches over 4 inches (10 centimeters) in pattern using US 10 (6mm) needles, lightly blocked.
