Project Overview

The Dimity collection features a coordinated set of three knitted accessories: a bonnet hat, fingerless mitts, and gloves. Bonnet Hat

Finished Measurements: Approximately 18"/46cm around the body of the hat at the connection point. The brim measures 6½"/16.5cm deep when laid flat, and the crown is approximately 4"/10cm deep.

Construction Method: The bonnet is worked flat on straight needles or long circular needles, beginning with a picot hem edge. The pattern employs a bottom-up construction approach, starting with a cast-on of 109 stitches. After establishing the hem with knit and purl rows, a decorative picot row is created using yarn overs and knit-two-together decreases. The design then transitions into stranded colorwork using the Petit Flower Chart for the initial pattern section, followed by the Bonnet Chart for the main body.

Techniques and Stitches: The bonnet utilizes several fundamental knitting techniques including yarn overs for the picot edge, knit-two-together and slip-slip-knit decreases for shaping, and stranded colorwork for the patterned sections.
