What Is Being Made

The Juno Jumper is a knitted sweater designed by Martin Storey for Rowan. This intermediate-level pullover is tailored to fit bust measurements ranging from 71–76 cm (28–30 inches) up to 152–157 cm (60–62 inches), making it available across nine size options. The garment features a classic crew neckline and is worked primarily in stockinette stitch, offering a smooth, refined finish suitable for everyday wear.

Techniques Used

The Juno Jumper employs several key knitting techniques to achieve its structured fit and professional appearance:

• Seamless construction: The back and front are worked separately and then joined, with careful shaping at the armholes and shoulders to create a tailored silhouette.
• Armhole shaping: Armholes are shaped by casting off stitches at regular intervals, with measurements ranging from 23 cm to 33 cm depending on size, creating a comfortable and well-proportioned sleeve cap.
• Shoulder shaping: Shoulders are graduated using multiple cast-off rows, distributing the shaping over several rows for a smooth transition and professional finish.
• Neckline shaping: The front neck features gradual decreases worked over multiple rows and alternate rows, creating a gentle, flattering curve. The back neck is shaped with a straight cast-off, while the front neck decreases are worked at the edge over 6 rows, then continued on alternate rows.
• Neckband finishing: A ribbed neckband is worked using smaller needles on a circular needle, creating a neat, elastic finish around the neck opening.

Stitches Used

The Juno Jumper is constructed almost entirely in stockinette stitch (also called stocking stitch), which creates the smooth, flat fabric characteristic of classic knitwear. The neckband is worked in ribbing, which provides elasticity and helps the neckline retain its shape. Shaping is achieved through strategic cast-offs and decreases rather than decorative stitch patterns, maintaining the garment's clean, contemporary aesthetic.

Materials: Yarn and Needles

The Juno Jumper is designed to be knitted in Rowan Kid Classic, a soft yarn available in multiple colorways. The pattern is photographed in Cement 890, with an alternative colorway option in Tiger 913. Yarn requirements vary by size, ranging from 7 to 13 balls of 50-gram Kid Classic yarn.

Two needle sizes are required for this project:

• 4mm (US 6) needles: Used for casting on and for the neckband, these smaller needles create the tighter ribbing that frames the neck.
• 5mm (US 8) needles: The main needles used for the body of the sweater, worked in stockinette stitch. A 4mm circular needle no longer than 50 cm is also needed for the neckband.

Tension: The pattern specifies a tension of 19 stitches and 25 rows to 10 cm, measured over stockinette stitch using 5mm (US 8) needles. Achieving correct tension is essential for the garment to fit properly across all nine sizes.
