The pullover features a curved hem construction and a ribbed neckline, creating a sophisticated and modern silhouette suitable for everyday wear.

Knitting Techniques Used

The Lana Grossa Pullover is constructed using bottom-up seamed construction, meaning the pieces are knitted from the bottom edge upward and then sewn together. The garment is worked flat on straight needles rather than in the round for the body and front pieces, allowing for precise shaping and curved hem details. The front features a distinctive curved hem created through strategic cast-on and increase techniques. The neckline is finished using the pick-up and knit method, where live stitches are picked up around the neck edge and worked in the round to create a finished ribbed collar.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The primary stitch used throughout most of the pullover is stockinette stitch (St st), which creates a smooth, classic fabric with a flat appearance. The front features a section worked in reverse stockinette stitch (rev St st), adding textural interest and visual depth to the design. The neckline is finished with a ribbed pattern worked in the round, which provides elasticity and a polished edge. Increases are worked using M1R (make one right) techniques to create seamless shaping along the curved hem and side edges.

Materials and Tools

The Lana Grossa Pullover is knitted using Lana Grossa Lala Berlin Lovely yarn, a premium blend composed of 52% alpaca, 18% cashmere, 18% pure wool, and 12% polyamide. Each 50-gram ball yields 90 meters of yarn. The pullover requires 500 grams (550g for size 40/42, 600g for size 44/46) of yarn. Two color versions are available: Version A in Natural (col 3) and Version B in Light.

The project requires size 6 mm needles in multiple configurations: straight needles for working the body flat, circular needles in both 40 cm and 80 cm lengths for joining sections and working the neckline, and one set of size 6 mm double-pointed needles (dpns) for any necessary small circumference knitting. The use of multiple needle types allows for efficient transitions between flat and circular knitting throughout construction.

Construction Details

The front is worked in two halves, beginning with the left front. The knitter casts on 5 stitches and works the curved hem by casting on additional stitches at the beginning of subsequent wrong-side rows across 6 rows. Simultaneously, side shaping increases are worked at regular intervals—every 6th row or every 4th row depending on the size—using the make-one-right increase technique placed before and after a marked center stitch. The piece measures 34.5 centimeters from the cast-on edge before the work is divided at the center. The right front is worked as a mirror image of the left front, with all shaping reversed.

The back is joined to the front pieces by casting on stitches between the two front halves, creating a continuous body. The knitter then continues working in stockinette stitch across all stitches while maintaining side shaping increases. The neckline is finished by picking up 70 stitches evenly around the neck edge using a shorter circular needle and working a ribbed pattern in the round for 9 centimeters.

Finishing involves pinning all pieces to their intended measurements and blocking to shape. Shoulder seams are sewn together to complete the garment structure, creating a professional, tailored appearance.
