Garment Overview
The Lana Grossa Top in Tre Seta is a sophisticated knitted pullover featuring a refined blend of natural and luxury fibers. This design showcases elegant stitch patterning and structured shaping, making it suitable for a polished, versatile wardrobe piece. The garment is available in three sizes: 36/38, 40/42, and 44.
Fiber Content and Materials
This top is crafted from Lana Grossa Tre Seta, a premium yarn blend containing 40% Merino wool, 35% silk, 20% baby alpaca, and 5% viscose. The yarn is spun at 130 meters per 50 grams, providing a lightweight yet substantial fabric suitable for refined garments. The yardage requirement is 300 grams (300, 350 grams) for sizes 36/38, 40/42, and 44 respectively, available in the colorway Beige (col 5). Construction requires size 4.5 and 5 millimeter needles, a 40-centimeter circular needle in size 4.5 millimeters, and a cable needle.
Techniques and Construction Methods
The Lana Grossa Top in Tre Seta employs multiple knitting techniques to achieve its sophisticated appearance. The garment is worked flat on straight needles and seamed, allowing for precise stitch control and professional finishing. The construction follows a bottom-up approach, beginning at the lower edge and progressing toward the shoulders and neckline. Strategic cable work is incorporated as a decorative element, adding visual interest and textural depth to the design. Full-fashion decreases are used throughout shaping sequences, ensuring neat and professional-looking armhole and neck edges.
Stitch Patterns and Details
The top features multiple stitch patterns worked in combination:
- Checkerboard cable pattern: A structured motif worked over 36 rows, measuring approximately 25 centimeters from cast-on, creating a dimensional textured section
- Moss stitch: A reversible, textured pattern created by alternating knit and purl stitches on every row, providing subtle visual interest and drape
- Stockinette stitch and reverse stockinette stitch: Smooth and inverted smooth textures used in combination to create contrast and definition
- Rib pattern in rows: A multiple of 2 plus 1, with selvage stitches, worked by alternating knit and purl through the back loop for a refined edge finish
- Rib pattern in rounds: A multiple of 2 worked in the round, used for circular needle sections
Shaping and Fit
The garment incorporates sophisticated shaping techniques to achieve a tailored fit. Armhole shaping begins with full-fashion decreases: 2 stitches are decreased at each end over 3 right-side rows, followed by 1 stitch at each end over 13 to 18 right-side rows (depending on size), and then 1 stitch at each end on every alternate right-side row for 6 to 7 additional times. Neckline shaping occurs when the piece measures 51 to 53 centimeters from cast-on, with 30 center stitches bound off. Additional decreases of 2 stitches and then 1 stitch are worked at each neck edge. Shoulder bind-off occurs at 53 to 55 centimeters from cast-on, with 13 to 17 stitches remaining per shoulder depending on size.
Pattern Structure
The pattern is presented with instructions for the smallest size (36/38) as the primary reference, with figures in parentheses indicating adjustments for larger sizes (40/42 and 44). When only one figure appears without parentheses, that measurement or instruction applies uniformly across all sizes. This format allows knitters to easily track size-specific modifications throughout the construction process.
