Lana Grossa Pullover in Mary's Tweed & Silkhair

What is Being Made

This is a classic pullover sweater designed as Design 15 from the Classici 19 collection. The garment is constructed as a crew-neck pullover available in four size ranges: 36/38, 40/42, 44/46, and 48/50. The design features a sophisticated combination of textures created by working two complementary yarns together throughout the project.

Techniques Used

The pullover is constructed using bottom-up seamed construction, meaning the back, front, and sleeves are worked separately from the cast-on edge upward, then assembled with seams. The garment is worked flat on straight needles rather than in the round, allowing for precise shaping and pattern work.

The design incorporates lace patterning throughout the main body. The lace pattern is worked according to a charted design with a multiple of 2 stitches plus 3 edge stitches, repeating over 34 rows. The chart is read with row numbers indicated on both edges—right-side row numbers on the right edge and wrong-side row numbers on the left edge.

Shaping techniques include full-fashion double decreases for the V-neck shaping on the front, creating a refined, tailored appearance. The back features a crew neckline with standard bind-off shaping, while the front incorporates a deeper V-neck that is decreased gradually over multiple rows for a flattering fit.

Stitches Used

  • Ribbing: The pullover begins with a 1x1 rib pattern (knit 1, purl 1) for the welts, providing elasticity and a finished edge
  • Main Pattern: A lace pattern worked from a 34-row chart repeat, creating an openwork texture throughout the body
  • Shaping Decreases: Full-fashion double decreases used for the V-neck shaping to maintain pattern integrity

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The pullover is created by holding one strand of each yarn together throughout the entire project, creating a blended yarn with unique characteristics.

Lana Grossa Mary's Tweed: The primary yarn component, requiring 350 (400, 450, 500) grams depending on size. This yarn is composed of 33% baby alpaca, 30% Merino wool, 26% polyamide, and 11% silk, with a yardage of 135 meters per 50-gram ball. The specified colorway is Nougat/Mocha Mélange (col 16), providing a warm, mottled neutral tone.

Lana Grossa Silkhair: The complementary yarn, requiring 125 (150, 150, 175) grams depending on size. This yarn consists of 70% superkid mohair and 30% silk, offering 210 meters per 25-gram ball. The specified colorway is Gold Brown (col 115), adding warmth and a subtle sheen to the blend.

Needles: The pattern calls for size 4 and 4.5 mm needles for the main fabric, with a size 4 mm circular needle measuring 40 centimeters long for any necessary circular sections or finishing work.

Construction Details

The back and front pieces are shaped with armhole decreases worked at specified intervals. The front features a distinctive V-neck with full-fashion decreasing that occurs every 10 rows for three repeats, then every 20 rows for one final repeat, creating a gradual, elegant neckline. The back uses a more traditional crew-neck shaping with bind-offs at the center and edges.

Sleeve cap shaping and length specifications are included in the full pattern instructions, with the sleeves also worked flat and seamed to the body. The combination of the textured Mary's Tweed with the luxurious Silkhair creates a sophisticated fabric with both visual interest and tactile appeal, making this pullover suitable for refined everyday wear or special occasions.
