Product Description

Lana Grossa 15 Pullover in Sara is a lovely knitting pattern for a women’s turtleneck and dolman sleeve sweater with an interesting k2, p2 ribbing pattern. The pullover is knit flat in pieces from the bottom up, and then shoulders and over arms are seamed. The turtleneck stitches are picked up along the neck edge and worked in the round. The sleeve cuffs are picked up along the cuff edge and then seamed. Lana Grossa Sara is a soft and lightweight blend of cotton, alpaca, and Merino wool that is perfect for three-season wear. This chainette yarn comes in a beautiful range of heathered colors, and its soft halo adds extra texture and softness to garments and accessories.

Lana Grossa 15 Pullover in Sara

What Is Being Made

The Lana Grossa 15 Pullover in Sara is a knitted sweater designed as a one-size garment. This pullover features a curved hem created through the main stitch pattern, offering a modern silhouette with shaping at the front neckline and sleeves.

Construction Method and Techniques

This pullover is constructed using a bottom-up, seamed approach with sections worked flat on straight needles and worked in the round using circular needles. The construction begins with casting on stitches for the front and back panels, which are worked separately in the main pattern before being joined. Circular needles are introduced partway through the construction to accommodate the increased stitch count as the garment widens.

The sweater features selvage stitches on every row, with the first stitch slipped knitwise and the last stitch knitted to create clean, finished edges for seaming.

Stitch Patterns and Details

  • Main Pattern: Worked according to Chart A, this pattern is the primary stitch used throughout the body of the pullover. The pattern creates the characteristic curved hem and is worked from a written chart that begins with a wrong-side row.
  • Twisted Rib: Used for the sleeve cuffs and worked according to Chart B. This rib pattern is worked in rows 1–3 once, then rows 2 and 3 are repeated to create an elastic, fitted cuff.
  • Increases: Strategic increases using M1R (make one right) and M1L (make one left) are incorporated to maintain pattern continuity while shaping the front neckline. The pattern includes 40 increase rows on the right side to shape the front opening.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The Lana Grossa 15 Pullover in Sara is knitted with Lana Grossa Sara yarn, a luxurious blend composed of 65% cotton, 30% baby alpaca, and 5% Merino wool. This fiber composition creates a fabric that is breathable, soft, and durable. The project requires 450 grams of yarn with a yardage of 125 meters per 50 grams, providing approximately 1,125 meters of working yarn for the completed garment. The sample shown is worked in Yellow Mélange (color 13).

Needles and Tools

  • Size 5.5 mm needles: Straight needles used for initial cast-on and ribbed sections
  • Size 7 mm needles: Straight needles used for the main body pattern sections
  • Size 7 mm circular needle, 100 cm long: Used for working the body in the round once stitches are increased
  • Size 5.5 mm circular needle, 50 cm long: Used for finishing details such as neckline and cuff work

Pattern Features

The pullover demonstrates intermediate knitting techniques including chart reading, stitch increases worked within pattern repeats, and transitioning between flat and circular needle work. The curved hem is an integral design feature formed by the main stitch pattern rather than through traditional shaping techniques, creating visual interest and a contemporary aesthetic.
