Product Description

Lana Grossa Jacket in Solo Lino is a women’s cardigan that is perfect for throwing over your summer dresses, capris, and tees, or almost anything else in your wardrobe. The jacket has an easy to memorize allover lace mesh pattern that is knit flat in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed. The front and neckband stitches are picked up along the front and neck edge and worked back and forth.  The sleeve bands are picked up around the bottom edge of the sleeves and worked in the round. Lana Grossa Linea Pura Solo Lino comes in a stunning range of contemporary colors. This cable-plied blend of viscose and linen gets softer with every wash. The lace mesh pattern is in chart form only.

Lana Grossa Solo Lino Jacket

What Is Being Made

This is a knitted cardigan jacket designed as part of the Classici 20 collection from Lana Grossa. The Solo Lino Jacket is available in three sizes: 36/38, 40/42, and 44. The design features a structured silhouette with shaped sleeves, a defined neckline, and front closures typical of a classic cardigan construction.

Techniques Used

The Solo Lino Jacket employs several advanced knitting techniques to create its finished garment:

  • Bottom-up construction: The jacket is knitted from the cast-on edge upward, beginning with the back and front pieces before sleeve shaping
  • Worked flat: The main body pieces are worked flat on straight needles, allowing for seaming later
  • Worked in the round: Circular needles and double-pointed needles are used for specific sections, providing flexibility in construction
  • Lace patterning: An openwork mesh pattern creates visual interest and lightness throughout the design
  • Seamed construction: Pieces are joined together using seaming techniques for a polished, professional finish
  • Shaping: The pattern includes detailed shaping instructions for sleeves, neck, and shoulders to create a fitted garment

Stitches Used

The Solo Lino Jacket incorporates fundamental and decorative stitches to achieve its design:

  • Rib pattern: A 1x1 rib (knit 1, purl 1) creates the elastic cuff at the cast-on edge, providing structure and recovery
  • Mesh pattern: A lace stitch worked over a multiple of 4 stitches plus 1, repeated across rows 1–4. This pattern features yarn overs and decreases that create an open, airy fabric
  • Selvage stitches: Edge stitches maintain neat borders throughout the piece, purled on wrong-side rows and knitted on right-side rows
  • Stockinette stitch: Used on wrong-side rows of the mesh pattern, where all stitches are purled

Materials and Tools

The Solo Lino Jacket is worked in Lana Grossa Solo Lino, a yarn blend composed of 80% recycled linen viscose and 20% linen. This fiber content creates a lightweight, breathable fabric ideal for a jacket. The yarn is available in Light Olive (color 47) and comes in a weight of 120 meters per 50 grams.

Yardage requirements: The pattern calls for 400 grams (for size 36/38), 450 grams (for size 40/42), or 500 grams (for size 44) of Solo Lino yarn.

Needle specifications: The project requires size 3.5 mm and 4 mm needles in multiple formats: straight needles for flat knitting, a 120-centimeter circular needle for sections worked in the round, and one set of size 3.5 mm double-pointed needles for smaller circumferences.

Gauge and Finished Dimensions

The gauge for this project is 22 stitches and 30 rows over 10 centimeters when working the mesh pattern on size 4 mm needles. Maintaining proper gauge is essential to achieve the intended finished measurements. The jacket body reaches approximately 35–37 centimeters in length from cast-on to the beginning of shoulder shaping, depending on size.

Construction Details

The back piece is cast on with 115 (123, 131) stitches on size 3.5 mm needles, beginning with a 1x1 rib pattern for 4 centimeters. The work then transitions to size 4 mm needles, where the mesh pattern is introduced and maintained according to a provided chart. The left and right front pieces are each cast on with 59 (63, 67) stitches and follow the same ribbing and pattern transitions as the back.

Sleeve shaping is accomplished through strategic increases at designated edges, building the piece from 59 (63, 67) stitches to 79 (83, 87) stitches. Neck shaping involves binding off the center stitches and then binding off additional stitches at each neck edge in a stepped manner. Shoulder shaping is worked

Love the jacket. Believe there is a mistake in pattern. Don’t know where to find correction.
