Product Description

Lang 267-21 Sweater is a lovely relaxed women’s pullover knit in Liza. The sweater features a scoop neck, raglan long sleeves in a half-brioche rib pattern. The pullover is knit flat in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed. The neckband stitches are picked up along the neck edging and worked in the round. Lang Kimberley is a wool-free worsted weight yarn with a hemp chainette structure surrounding a soft cotton core. With its juxtaposition of softness and strength, Kimberley is truly unique and will create lightweight and stay-cool tops, tees, tanks, and wraps.  The half-brioche rib pattern is in written form only.

Lang 267-21 Liza Sweater: Knitted Bottom-Up Design

Garment Overview

The Lang 267-21 Liza is a classic knitted sweater designed by Lang & Co. AG, available in two size options: S–M and L–XL. This pullover features a refined construction with a bust measurement of 41 inches (104 cm) for the smaller size and 47¼ inches (120 cm) for the larger size. The finished length measures 21¼ inches (54 cm) for size S–M and 22½ inches (57 cm) for size L–XL, creating a versatile everyday sweater suitable for various body types.

Construction Techniques

The Lang 267-21 Liza employs a bottom-up construction method, meaning the sweater is knitted starting from the lower edge and progressing upward toward the shoulders and neckline. The garment is worked flat on straight needles for the main body pieces, then seamed together to create the finished garment. This traditional approach allows for straightforward shaping and precise fit adjustments throughout the knitting process. The design also incorporates worked-in-the-round elements, particularly for the ribbed edgings and neckline finishing, which is accomplished using a short circular needle to create seamless, professional-looking borders.

Stitch Patterns and Techniques

The sweater features two primary stitch patterns that create visual interest and structural integrity:

  • Stockinette Stitch: This fundamental knitting stitch forms the main body of the sweater. Stockinette is created by knitting on the right side rows and purling on the wrong side rows, producing the classic smooth, V-textured fabric that is both elegant and versatile. This stitch allows the yarn's natural beauty to shine while providing excellent drape and comfort.
  • Half Brioche Rib: Used for the cuffs, waistband, and neckline edgings, this textured rib pattern creates an elastic, fitted border that hugs the body. The Half Brioche Rib is worked over an odd number of stitches, alternating purl and knit stitches in a specific sequence. Row 1 (right side) begins with a slipped edge stitch worked purl-wise with yarn in front, followed by alternating purl and knit stitches. Row 2 (wrong side) reverses this pattern, and Row 3 repeats Row 1. This creates a sophisticated ribbed texture that provides both visual definition and functional stretch.

Shaping and Fit Details

The Lang 267-21 Liza incorporates strategic shaping to create a flattering silhouette. Side shaping is achieved through increase rows worked on the right side, where stitches are increased using the kfb (knit front and back) technique. These increases are repeated every right-side row 21 times, adding 2 stitches per row to gradually widen the sweater from the cast-on edge. This creates a gentle A-line or fitted shape depending on desired ease.

Armhole shaping begins when the front measures 11¾ inches (30 cm) from the cast-on edge. Stitches are bound off at the beginning of two consecutive rows to create the armhole opening. Following the armhole bind-off, raglan shaping is introduced, which creates sloped shoulders that taper toward the neckline. Raglan decreases are worked using k2tog (knit two together) and slip-stitch, knit, pass slipped stitch over (sl 1, k1, psso) techniques on the right side. These decrease rows are repeated every right-side row 15 times, then every fourth row an additional 4 to 8 times depending on size, creating a gradual taper that provides excellent fit and mobility in the shoulder area.

The neckline shaping occurs when the front measures 18½ inches (47 cm) for size S–M or 19¼ inches (49 cm) for size L–XL from the cast-on edge. The pattern marks the center 30 stitches for size S–M or 34 stitches for size L–XL as the neck opening, with 24 to 27 stitches remaining on each side. The center stitches are bound off, and the side stitches are transferred to waste yarn for later finishing, allowing for a clean, defined neckline.
