Construction and Techniques

This cape is constructed using a bottom-up seamed knitting method, meaning the pieces are knitted from the lower edge upward and then sewn together. The pattern consists of two main pieces: a back panel and a front panel, each featuring extensive shaping through strategic decreases that create the cape's characteristic curved silhouette.

The shaping technique employs a sophisticated decrease sequence that gradually narrows the fabric from the cast-on edge toward the neckline. Decreases are worked at regular intervals that vary throughout the construction—beginning every 10 rows, then progressing to every 8th row, every 6th row, every 4th row, and finally alternating between every 2nd and 4th row before completing with additional decreases every 2nd row. This graduated decrease pattern ensures a smooth, professional curve that defines the cape's elegant drape.

Stitches Used

Materials and Gauge

The Lang Cape pattern calls for LANGYARNS PHOENIX yarn, a premium merino extrafine and nylon blend that is mulesing-free. The yarn requirement is 300/300 grams, equivalent to 3 balls of bordeaux (color 1107.0064) for either size option.
