Lang PTO18-03 Kylie Sweater

What is Being Made

The Lang PTO18-03 Kylie is a classic pullover sweater designed for knitters seeking a versatile, everyday garment. Available in two sizes (S–M and L–XL), this sweater features a bust measurement of 140 cm (55") for the smaller size and 156 cm (61½") for the larger size, with a finished length of 63 cm (24¾"). The design offers a timeless silhouette suitable for various occasions and styling preferences.

Knitting Techniques

This sweater is constructed using the bottom-up method, meaning pieces are knitted from the lower edges upward toward the shoulders and neckline. The garment is worked flat on straight needles rather than in the round, allowing knitters to work on individual pieces before assembly. All pieces are then seamed together to create the finished sweater, a traditional approach that provides excellent shaping control and a professional finish.

Stitches Used

The Kylie sweater employs two primary stitch patterns:

  • Pattern I (Garter Stitch): Worked on 3mm needles, garter stitch is created by knitting every row on both the right side and wrong side. This produces a textured, reversible fabric with horizontal ridges that provides excellent elasticity and structure, particularly suitable for ribbed edgings and cuffs.
  • Pattern II (Reverse Stockinette Stitch): Worked on 3.5mm needles, this pattern is created by purling on the right side and knitting on the wrong side, producing a smooth, flat fabric with a subtle texture. This stitch is used for the main body of the sweater, creating a refined appearance.

Materials and Needles

The Kylie sweater is designed to be knitted with Lang Yarns Kylie, a luxurious blend yarn containing cotton, silk, wool, and viscose. The pattern requires 400 grams (approximately 8 balls) for the smaller size and 500 grams (approximately 10 balls) for the larger size, in the colorway rust 1038.0087. Knitters will need two sizes of ADDI knitting needles: size 3mm (US 2.5, UK 11) and size 3.5mm (US 4). The size 3mm needles are used for ribbed sections and garter stitch edgings, while the 3.5mm needles accommodate the main body fabric.

Design Considerations

Tip 1: Because the Lang Yarns Kylie yarn contains silk, pieces made from this yarn may stretch slightly with wear and become longer over time. Knitters should account for this characteristic by making pieces slightly shorter than the final desired length during construction.

Tip 2: The V-neckline features a distinctive shaping detail on the right side, requiring careful attention to decreases and stitch placement to achieve a balanced, professional-looking neckline.
