Lang Men's Cardigan - Knitted Garment Summary
Product Overview
The Lang Men's Cardigan is a classic knitted garment crafted from LANGYARNS KYLIE, a luxurious blend of cotton, silk, wool, and viscose. This cardigan is designed for a comfortable, relaxed fit and is available in four sizes: S, M, L, and XL, with chest measurements ranging from 96 cm to 120 cm (37¾" to 47¼") and a finished length of 70 cm (27½").
Knitting Techniques
This cardigan is constructed using bottom-up construction method, meaning the knitter begins at the lower edge and works upward toward the neckline. The garment is worked flat on straight needles rather than in the round, allowing for traditional seaming at the side seams and sleeve seams. The seamed construction approach provides clean, professional finishing and allows for precise fit adjustments throughout the garment assembly.
Stitches and Stitch Patterns
The cardigan features two primary stitch patterns:
- Pattern I (Ribbed Pattern): Worked on 3mm needles, this pattern consists of a repeating sequence of knit and purl stitches: 1 edge stitch, *p1, k2, p1*, repeated to the end, finishing with 1 edge stitch. On subsequent rows, stitches are knitted as they face you, creating a 2x2 rib effect (p2, k2). This ribbed texture provides elasticity and structure, commonly used for cuffs, waistbands, and body sections requiring recovery and shape retention.
- Pattern II (Relief Pattern): Worked on 3.5mm needles, this pattern is a textured relief design that is worked according to a provided diagram, adding visual interest and dimension to the garment.
Materials and Tools
The cardigan requires LANGYARNS KYLIE yarn in grey, with yardage varying by size: 450g (9 balls) for size S, 500g (10 balls) for size M, 550g (11 balls) for size L, and 600g (12 balls) for size XL. The yarn composition of cotton, silk, wool, and viscose creates a fabric with breathability, sheen, warmth, and drape.
Knitting needles required include ADDI needles in sizes 3mm (US 2.5, UK 11) and 3.5mm (US 4). Additionally, one long circular needle in 3mm size is needed for finishing edges. The pattern calls for 5 buttons for the cardigan front closure, providing a classic, functional design element.
Construction Details
The cardigan's construction emphasizes precision and wearability. The use of two needle sizes—smaller needles for ribbed sections and slightly larger needles for pattern sections—allows the knitter to control fabric density and elasticity in different areas. The ribbed patterns create fitted edges that hug the body at the cuffs, hem, and front bands, while the relief pattern sections provide visual texture and comfortable wear throughout the body and sleeves. The seamed construction method ensures durability and allows for adjustments during assembly to achieve proper fit across the chest and length.
