Lang PTO50-10 Triangular Shawl
Project Overview
This is a triangular shawl designed by LANG Yarns, a downloadable knitting pattern that creates a generous wrap measuring approximately 22½ inches by 76¾ inches (57 x 195 centimeters). The shawl is worked flat using seamless knitting techniques, making it an elegant accessory suitable for layering or draping.
Techniques and Construction Method
The Lang PTO50-10 shawl employs cable knitting techniques as its primary decorative feature. The pattern is worked flat rather than in the round, allowing knitters to follow a traditional row-by-row construction from the chart. The seamless construction approach means there are no seams to join, creating a unified fabric throughout the garment. Cable stitches are integrated throughout the design, with the pattern featuring both cable crosses worked over 3 stitches, where stitches are placed on a cable needle and held either at the back or front of the work before being knitted in sequence.
Stitch Details
The pattern utilizes a combination of fundamental knitting stitches alongside decorative cable elements:
- Knit stitches (k) and purl stitches (p) form the base fabric
- Cable crosses created by placing 3 stitches on a cable needle at the back of work, knitting the next 3 stitches, then knitting the held stitches
- Cable crosses created by placing 3 stitches on a cable needle in front of work, knitting the next 3 stitches, then knitting the held stitches
- Increases including M1P (make one purl) and twisted purl increases to shape the triangular silhouette
- Decreases such as p2tog (purl 2 together) and slip stitches to manage stitch counts
The pattern repeats work over 18-row and 9-stitch repeats, allowing knitters to follow the charted instructions systematically. The cable pattern rapport (repeat unit) is clearly marked on the chart for easy tracking.
Materials Required
The shawl is constructed using LANGYARNS PARADISE yarn, a blend of cotton and viscose fibers that creates a lightweight, draping fabric ideal for shawls. The project requires 300 grams of yarn, equivalent to 3 balls in the blue colorway (shade 1109.0006). Knitters will need ADDI knitting needles in size US 6 (4 millimeters) to work the pattern as specified. All measurements in the pattern are provided in metric centimeters.
Pattern Format
This is a downloadable PDF pattern from LANG Yarns' pattern shop, featuring charted instructions with multilingual symbol legends to accommodate knitters of various language backgrounds. The pattern includes detailed stitch abbreviations and a comprehensive chart showing the cable placement and shaping increases throughout the triangular construction.
