Lang Jasmin Cardigan

What Is Being Made

The Lang Jasmin Cardigan is a classic knitted cardigan designed for a comfortable, relaxed fit. This garment features a sophisticated construction with finished bust measurements of 47¼"/52" (120/132 cm) and a total length of 23½" (60 cm), making it suitable for sizes S–M and L–XL. The cardigan is crafted to provide an elegant layering piece with refined shaping at the shoulders and neckline.

Knitting Techniques

The Lang Jasmin Cardigan employs multiple construction techniques to achieve its polished appearance:

  • Bottom-Up Construction: The cardigan is worked from the lower edge upward, allowing for straightforward length adjustments and intuitive sizing
  • Worked Flat: The main body pieces are knitted flat on straight needles, providing excellent stitch control and ease of shaping
  • Worked in the Round: Certain sections utilize circular needles and double-pointed needles for seamless construction where appropriate
  • Seamless Assembly: The design incorporates a 3-needle bind-off technique to join shoulder seams while binding off, eliminating the need for separate seaming and creating strong, professional-looking shoulder joins
  • Short Row Shaping: Strategic short rows are worked at the shoulders and neckline to create custom shaping that enhances the garment's fit and drape

Stitches Used

The pattern utilizes fundamental knitting stitches executed with precision:

  • Stockinette Stitch: The primary stitch throughout the cardigan body, creating a smooth, classic fabric with a refined appearance
  • K1:P1 Rib: Used for ribbed edging and finishing details, worked on US 11 (8 mm) needles. This alternating knit and purl pattern creates elastic, fitted edges that hold their shape
  • K2:P2 Rib: An alternative ribbing option worked on US 11 (8 mm) needles for additional textural variation in finishing bands

Materials and Tools

The Lang Jasmin Cardigan is designed to showcase the qualities of premium yarn and requires specific needles for optimal results:

  • Yarn: LANGYARNS CASHMERE LIGHT, a luxurious blend of cashmere and nylon. The pattern requires 275 grams (11 balls) for size S–M or 325 grams (13 balls) for size L–XL in the colorway dark jeans (950.0034). This fiber blend combines the softness and warmth of cashmere with the durability and elasticity of nylon
  • Needles: ADDI knitting needles in multiple sizes to accommodate different stitch patterns and techniques:
    • US 11 (8 mm) straight needles for the main body worked flat
    • US 15 (10 mm) straight needles and one short circular needle for ribbed sections and finishing bands
    • Set of US 10 (6 mm) double-pointed needles for refined detail work and seamless construction

Pattern Structure and Design Details

The cardigan features a well-proportioned back panel measuring 84–92 stitches depending on size. The neckline shaping is carefully engineered, with 20–26 stitches bound off at the center back to create a comfortable opening. Neck edge decreases are worked gradually to ensure a smooth, refined curve. The pattern includes detailed instructions for working each side of the neckline separately after the initial bind-off, allowing for precise shaping control.

The shoulder construction utilizes the 3-needle bind-off method, a professional finishing technique that simultaneously joins and binds off the front and back shoulder stitches in a single operation. This creates a durable seam with excellent structural integrity. After shoulder completion, a closing band of 6 stitches is maintained and worked in K1:P1 rib for approximately 3¼"/4" (8/10 cm, depending on size), providing a neat, finished edge.

The combination of stockinette stitch body with ribbed edges creates a garment with excellent drape and shape retention. The use of LANGYARNS CASHMERE LIGHT yarn elevates this design into a luxury piece suitable for refined wardrobes, while the nylon content ensures the finished garment maintains its shape through regular wear and care.
