What is Being Made

The Lise Top is a sophisticated knitted garment designed by Quail Studio, available in nine sizes ranging from 71-76cm chest (28-30 inches) through to 152-157cm chest (60-62 inches). This advanced-level knitting project creates a fitted top with an actual chest measurement ranging from 95.5cm to 177.5cm depending on size selection. The garment features decorative lace panels and cable details that create visual interest and texture throughout the design.

Techniques Used

This pattern employs several advanced knitting techniques suitable for experienced crafters. The construction utilizes circular knitting worked in the round, which creates seamless fabric and allows for even tension distribution. Lace panel work is a central design feature, with the lace panel measuring 14cm across 31 stitches. The pattern incorporates cable techniques using C2F (cable 2 front) and C2B (cable 2 back) abbreviations, which involve slipping stitches onto a cable needle to create twisted rope-like textures. Increase shaping is used extensively throughout the garment using M1L (make 1 left) and M1R (make 1 right) techniques to add stitches strategically for garment shaping. Bobble stitches are also incorporated as a textural element. The top is worked using the magic loop method or double-pointed needles for the cuff sections, demonstrating versatility in construction approaches.

Materials and Tools

Needles required include 4mm (US 6) circular needles in two lengths: one measuring 40cm and additional circular needles measuring between 80cm and 160cm depending on the size being knitted. A set of 4mm (US 6) double-pointed needles is needed for cuff work, with the option to use the magic loop method on circular needles as an alternative. Additional supplies include 10 stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats, stitch holders for managing stitches during construction, and a cable needle for executing cable stitches. The pattern specifies a tension of 21 stitches and 32 rows per 10cm measured over stockinette stitch using 4mm needles, which is essential for achieving the correct finished garment dimensions.
