What is Being Made

The Wanderlust Pullover is a streamlined knit sweater designed by Veera Valimaki. This pullover features a beautiful horizontal neckline with architectural interest, garter-stitch cuffs and edging, and short row shaping in the shoulders for a customized fit. The design is finished with three decorative buttons positioned up the back, adding refined detail to this comfortable everyday garment. The sweater is available in five sizes with finished chest circumferences ranging from 34 inches (86.5 cm) to 50 inches (127 cm), and is designed to be worn with a small amount of positive ease.

Techniques Used

This pullover employs a top-down construction method, combining both flat and in-the-round knitting techniques. The yoke is worked flat to establish the shoulder and neckline shaping, after which stitches are picked up and worked in the round for both the body and sleeves. This hybrid approach allows for precise shaping at the shoulders while maintaining the efficiency of circular knitting for the larger body sections. Short row shaping is strategically used in the shoulders to ensure proper fit and garment architecture. The pattern also incorporates the wrap and turn (W&T) technique, a short row method where the working yarn is brought to the front, a stitch is slipped, the yarn is brought to the back, and the stitch is returned to the left needle before turning the work. Materials

This pattern calls for Madelinetosh Tosh DK yarn, a 100% merino wool yarn with yardage of 225 yards (206 meters) per 3½ ounce (100 grams) skein. Depending on size, the project requires 5 to 7 skeins in the colorway "Well Water". The pattern specifies two different needle sizes: US 2½ (3mm) needles for the ribbed sections and US 8 (5mm) needles for the main fabric. Both sizes are available as 32-inch circular needles and as sets of 5 double-pointed needles, allowing flexibility in construction method.
