Malabrigo Rios is a hand-dyed 100% superwash merino worsted, plied so it keeps its shape and does not split on the needle. One 100 g skein holds 210 yds (192 m) and knits to 18–22 stitches over 4" on US 7–9 (4.5–5.5 mm) needles — recommended crochet hook G (4.5 mm) to I (5.5 mm). Spun and hand-dyed in Uruguay.
Rios is the machine-washable side of the Malabrigo range: the same hand-dyed depth of color, treated so it can be washed gentle and dried flat rather than hand washed only. That is why customers reach for it for the things they know will get washed — kids' sweaters, baby blankets, afghans — as well as for their own garments.

Beautiful yarn for gifting
I buy this yarn all the time. The colors are rich and it holds its shape well after washing. It’s soft enough to wear right next to your skin. I make cowls that protect my son's neck and are long enough to pull up and cover his nose and mouth when it’s cold. I make shawls and scarves for Christmas presents for family and friends. I give them away as fast as I make them.
Award-winning yarn for creative projects
It is a good gauge and washable. It has a wonderful feel. The colors are beautiful, and the rate of change of colors makes it great for making anything. It is not stripey. For example, a plain sweater knit in it looks wonderful. It wears well and does not pill. I have used it for years and won ribbons at the state fair for all kinds of items made with it. I even won a ribbon for a bracelet made with color 'candombe', using a small leftover piece!
Incredible feel and beautiful results
I chose it at an in-person store and have been using it ever since. I love the feel and the fabric. It’s so beautiful in the finished product. Wearing this nice wool is incredible. I made my first cardigan, which is now my favorite. I’m making a sweater for my husband! I haven’t washed the finished sweater yet, but when I washed the parts before seaming, it performed beautifully. My pleasure.

This is the second time I’ve used this yarn to make a baby afghan. It is soft and drape-y, perfect for my project. Especially love the softly-variegated colors. I only wish you had more pastels.

Lovely yarn to work with. Feels nice in the hands. Taking something out and working it again (when I read the wrong line in the pattern... yay inattention) was easy. No sticking. No shredding. Love the colors.
