MillaMia Annelia Jumper

What is Being Made

The MillaMia Annelia Jumper is a pullover sweater inspired by traditional Icelandic Lopi jumpers, reimagined with a contemporary MillaMia design approach. This garment is available in six sizes to fit bust measurements ranging from 82cm to 107cm (32 to 42 inches), with finished bust measurements from 94cm to 126cm (37 to 49½ inches). The jumper features a length to back neck of approximately 57 to 63cm (22½ to 24¾ inches) and consistent sleeve length of 43cm (17 inches) across all sizes.

Techniques Used

The Annelia Jumper employs several key knitting techniques that create its distinctive character. The garment is worked flat on straight needles for the main body sections and worked in the round using circular needles for seamless construction where applicable. The finished pieces are then seamed together to create the final garment structure. The most prominent technique featured in this design is stranded colorwork, where two colors are carried across the wrong side of the work to create the patterned fabric. When working from the colorwork chart, every round is a knit round, and the chart is read from right to left. The yarn not in active use is stranded loosely across the wrong side of the work to maintain consistent fabric tension and prevent puckering. The pattern also incorporates wrap stitches as a specialized technique to create shaping and texture details.

Stitches Used

The Annelia Jumper utilizes fundamental knitting stitches combined with colorwork techniques. The primary stitch is stockinette stitch (stocking stitch in UK terminology), which creates the smooth, classic fabric base for the garment. The pattern incorporates knit stitches as the foundation of the colorwork pattern, with decreases achieved through knit two stitches together (k2tog) for shaping. Make one stitch (m1) increases are used to add stitches where needed for garment shaping. The pattern also employs specialized wrap stitches (Wrap 1), which are worked differently on knit rows versus purl rows—on knit rows, the technique involves yarn to front, slip one stitch, yarn to back, then placing the slipped stitch back on the left needle; on purl rows, the sequence reverses with yarn to back, slip one stitch, yarn to front. These wrap stitches add textural interest and assist with garment construction details.

Materials

The Annelia Jumper is designed to be knitted with MillaMia Naturally Soft Merino yarn, which is exclusively available through Love Knitting. The pattern calls for 9 to 12 balls of 50g (1¾oz) in the main color Storm (shade 102), depending on the size selected, with 1 to 2 balls of the contrast color Ice (shade 125) for the stranded colorwork elements. The pattern suggests alternative colorways including Snow, Tempest, Mist, Midnight, Haze, and Ink, providing creative options for customizing the finished jumper. Knitting needles required include a pair each of 2.75mm (US 2) and 3.25mm (US 3) straight needles, along with 2.75mm (US 2) and 3.25mm (US 3) circular needles for the sections worked in the round. The recommended tension is 25 stitches and 34 rows to a 10cm (4-inch) square when working the pattern using 3.25mm (US 3) needles, ensuring proper garment fit and drape.
