Product Description
The Krans Jumper from MillaMia is an elegant cabled sweater with a funnel neck, three-quarter length sleeves, and optional embroidery that can take your project to the next level. Cabled rib flows seamlessly into the allover cable pattern on the front and back which continues up through the high neck. Sleeves begin with the same trim and are worked flat in reverse stockinette that neatly ties into the center of the cable pattern. This drop-shoulder pullover is knit flat in pieces and seamed. MillaMia Naturally Soft Cotton is a smooth and machine-washable yarn that has a crisp stitch definition perfect for cables and it will be cool and comfortable to wear even as the weather warms up. MillaMia Krans Jumper: Knitted Cable Sweater
What is Being Made
The MillaMia Krans Jumper is an intermediate-level knitted sweater designed to fit bust measurements from 76-82 cm up to 107-112 cm. This garment features a classic pullover construction with a finished bust measurement ranging from 97 cm to 129 cm depending on size selected. The jumper includes optional embroidery embellishment, though it is equally beautiful when worked plain without decorative stitching.
Techniques Used
This sweater is constructed using a bottom-up approach, meaning the body and sleeves are knitted from the lower edge upward. The pieces are worked flat on straight needles rather than in the round, and are subsequently seamed together to create the finished garment. The design incorporates cable work as a primary decorative element throughout the pattern.
Stitches and Stitch Techniques
The Krans Jumper employs several specialized cable stitches and techniques:
- C4B (Cable 4 Back): Slip the next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and hold at the back of work, knit 2 stitches from the left needle, then knit 2 stitches from the cable needle
- T3B (Twist 2 Back): Slip the next stitch onto a cable needle and hold at the back of work, knit 2 stitches from the left needle, then knit 1 stitch from the cable needle
- T3F (Twist 2 Front): Slip the next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and hold at the front of work, knit 1 stitch from the left needle, then knit 2 stitches from the cable needle
- Reverse Stockinette Stitch (rev st st): Used for the main fabric background, creating a textured surface
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Krans Jumper is designed to be worked in MillaMia Naturally Soft Cotton, available exclusively through www.lovecrafts.com. The yarn requirements vary by size: 9 balls for the smallest size (76-82 cm bust), increasing to 13 balls for the largest size (107-112 cm bust). Each ball weighs 50 grams.
The primary body color is Off White (311). For those choosing to add embroidery embellishment, small amounts of additional MillaMia Naturally Soft Cotton colors are required: English Rose (342), Lemon Yellow (333), Bright Red (331), Indigo Purple (321), Seaweed, Duck Egg Teal (351), and Black.
Needles and Additional Tools
The pattern requires a pair each of 3mm (US 2) and 3.25mm (US 3) knitting needles for working the fabric. A cable needle is essential for executing the cable stitches throughout the design. For embroidery work, the pattern recommends using a medium weight water soluble stabilizer and a small embroidery hoop to support the decorative stitching.
Gauge and Tension
Achieving proper gauge is critical for this project. The pattern specifies 25 stitches and 34 rows to a 10cm square over reverse stockinette stitch using 3.25mm (US 3) needles. When working the cable pattern, the gauge is 30 stitches and 36 rows to a 10cm square using the same needle size. Proper tension ensures the finished garment will match the intended measurements.
Garment Specifications
The Krans Jumper features a length to back neck ranging from 53 cm to 57 cm depending on size, with sleeve length measuring approximately 35 cm. The jumper is available in four size options to accommodate different bust measurements, with actual finished measurements provided for each size to aid in selection.
Design Notes
The pattern includes comprehensive guidance for embroidery work, with full tips provided to support crafters at all embroidery experience levels. The design demonstrates that the sweater maintains its visual appeal whether embroidery is added or omitted, offering flexibility for different maker preferences and skill levels.
