What is Being Made

It begins as a generous wrap measuring 55 cm (21¾ inches) wide and approximately 160 cm (63 inches) long, and can be refashioned into a more compact scarf measuring 20 cm (7¾ inches) wide and approximately 195 cm (77 inches) long. This dual-purpose design offers versatility for different styling preferences and occasions.

Techniques and Stitches Used

This advanced-level project employs multiple sophisticated knitting techniques that create visual interest and texture throughout the garment:

• Ribbed Foundation: The scarf begins with a 2x2 rib pattern (alternating knit 2, purl 2) that provides elasticity and structure to the edges
• Travelling Cable Patterns: The main body features travelling cable stitches that create diagonal movement across the fabric. These cables are worked using techniques such as C3F (cable 3 front), Cr3L (cross 3 left), and corresponding right-side variations
• Left and Right Pattern Sequences: Distinct pattern sections are worked on the left and right sides of the scarf, with the left-hand edge maintaining a 5-stitch rib pattern for definition and stability
• Decreasing: Strategic decreases are incorporated to shape the piece, with 2 stitches decreased evenly across a row to transition from the initial 114 stitches to the working 112 stitches

Materials and Specifications

Yarn: Rowan Alpaca Soft DK, a lightweight double-knit weight yarn. The pattern was photographed in two colorways: Green Teal 213 and Hyacinth 225.

Needles: One pair of 4mm (US size 6) needles are required for this project.
