Noro Anisie Knit Sweater

What is Being Made

The Noro Anisie is an intermediate-level knit sweater designed for a range of sizes from X-Small through 5X. The garment features finished bust measurements ranging from 38 inches (96cm) to 70 inches (178cm), with corresponding length measurements from 23½ inches (59.5cm) to 27 inches (68.5cm). The sweater is sized to accommodate various body types with upper arm widths ranging from 11½ inches (29cm) to 21 inches (53cm).

Construction Technique

This sweater is worked flat on circular needles, meaning it is constructed in pieces rather than in the round, and then seamed together. The garment is worked from side to side, beginning with the lower sleeve cuff. This sideways construction method allows for unique shaping and patterning possibilities. Circular needles are used throughout the project to accommodate the large number of stitches required, though the work is not joined into a round.

Stitches and Techniques Used

  • Stockinette Stitch (St st): The primary stitch used for the body of the sweater, creating a smooth, classic knit fabric
  • Garter Stitch: Used for specific structural elements including the 13 shoulder and neck stitches and the 18 lower edge stitches, providing a textured, reversible finish
  • Twisted Slip, Slip, Knit (ssk): A decrease technique where the first stitch is slipped knitwise and the second stitch is slipped through the back loop before being knitted together, creating a left-leaning decrease
  • Slip Stitch: A stitch passed from the left-hand needle to the right-hand needle without being worked, used for various shaping and edge purposes
  • Yarn Over: A technique that creates a new stitch and decorative eyelet by placing yarn over the right-hand needle
  • Purlwise: Working stitches as if to purl them, used in various stitch manipulations
  • Selvage Stitch: An edge stitch worked to facilitate seaming the finished pieces together
  • Skip/Miss: Skipping a specified number of stitches from the previous row before working into the next stitch
  • Work Even: Continuing in the specified pattern without increasing or decreasing stitches

Materials Required

The Noro Anisie requires Noro Uchiwa yarn in colorway #01. Yardage needs vary by size, requiring 2 balls (for X-Small and Small sizes), 2 balls (for Medium), 3 balls (for Large, 1X, and 2X), 3 balls (for 3X), or 4 balls (for 4X and 5X), with each ball weighing 200 grams.

For needles, the pattern calls for two different sizes of US circular needles: a US 6/4mm circular needle measuring 32 inches (80cm) long and a US 7/4.5mm circular needle measuring 32 inches (80cm) long. The larger needle size is used to obtain the correct gauge. Additional supplies include stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and shaping points.

Gauge

The pattern specifies a gauge of 20 stitches and 28 rows over 4 inches (10cm) in stockinette stitch using the size US 7/4.5mm needles. Achieving the correct gauge is essential for proper fit, particularly given the range of sizes accommodated in this pattern.
