Product Description
Noro Tadmor Knitted Sweater
What is Being Made
The Noro Tadmor is an intermediate-level knitted sweater designed by Sandi Rosner. This garment is a top-down, in-the-round construction sweater featuring a fold-under collar and a decorative tree motif created through colorwork contrast. The design is available in five sizes ranging from Small to 2X, with finished bust measurements from 38 inches (96.5cm) to 54 inches (137cm) and lengths from 23 inches (58.5cm) to 25 inches (63.5cm).
Construction Method and Techniques
The Tadmor sweater is knit in the round from the top down, beginning with the fold-under collar. This top-down approach allows for easy fitting adjustments and seamless construction. The design incorporates German Short Rows (DS) as a key shaping technique, which creates smooth, three-dimensional shaping without visible gaps or holes that can occur with other short row methods.
A notable design feature involves strategic color work: to achieve optimal contrast for the tree motif, sections of the contrast color yarn that lack sufficient visual distinction are cut out during construction. This selective color placement ensures the tree design stands out clearly against the main color background.
Stitches Used
The pattern employs several fundamental knitting stitches and techniques:
- Knit and Purl Stitches: The foundational stitches used throughout the garment
- Yarn Over (YO): Used to create new stitches and add decorative eyelet or lace elements
- Slip, Slip, Knit/Purl (SSK/SSP): A decrease technique where two stitches are slipped knitwise or purlwise individually, then worked together through their front loops to decrease one stitch
- Slip Stitch: A stitch passed from the left needle to the right needle without being worked, used for various shaping and joining purposes
- Purlwise Insertion: Inserting the needle as if to purl, used in specific stitch manipulations
- Selvage Stitch: An edge stitch that facilitates easier seaming
- Work Even: Continuing in pattern without increases or decreases
Materials and Tools
The Tadmor requires two coordinating Noro yarns in different colorways. The main color (MC) uses Noro Silk Garden Solo in #01, with quantities ranging from 8 to 12 skeins of 50g each depending on size. The contrast color (CC) uses Noro Silk Garden in #208, requiring 2 to 4 skeins of 50g each.
Needle requirements include multiple circular needles in two sizes to accommodate the top-down construction and varying stitch counts:
- US 6/4mm circular needles in both 16-inch and 32-inch lengths
- US 7/4.5mm circular needles in both 16-inch and 32-inch lengths
- One set of US 6/4mm double-pointed needles for smaller circumferences
The needle size selection allows knitters to obtain proper gauge with the chosen yarn, with the US 7/4.5mm needles being the primary working size for most of the sweater.
Finished Measurements
The sweater is sized to accommodate multiple body types with the following specifications across all five sizes:
- Bust: 38 to 54 inches (96.5 to 137cm)
- Length: 23 to 25 inches (58.5 to 63.5cm)
- Upper Arm: 14.5 to 18 inches (37 to 45.5cm)
