Product Description
Palm Slipover in Rowan Pure Cashmere
What is Being Made
The Palm Slipover is an intermediate-level knitted sleeveless garment designed to fit bust measurements ranging from 71–157 cm (28–62 inches). This versatile piece features a classic slipover silhouette with a fitted waist and structured neckline, available in three size options to accommodate different body measurements. The finished garment features an actual bust measurement of 80, 110, or 140 cm depending on the size selected.
Knitting Techniques
This pattern employs several essential knitting techniques suitable for intermediate crafters. The construction involves dividing for the front neck, which requires working each side of the neck separately to create a shaped neckline. Decreasing at the neck edge is performed strategically on alternating rows to create a refined, fitted neck opening. Increasing at the side edge is worked simultaneously with neck shaping to maintain proper proportions and silhouette. The pattern also incorporates shoulder shaping through sequential cast-offs at the beginning of rows, creating a structured shoulder line. Additional techniques include pressing the finished pieces and collar construction worked from held stitches, demonstrating intermediate-level garment assembly.
Stitches Used
- Stockinette Stitch (st st) – forms the primary fabric for the body of the slipover, creating a smooth, classic knitted surface
- Ribbing (K1, P1) – used at side edges and for the collar, providing elasticity and a finished appearance
- Make One Left (M1l) – picking up the horizontal loop before the next stitch and knitting into the back of it to create an invisible increase
- Make One Right (M1r) – picking up the horizontal loop before the next stitch and knitting into the front of it for directional increases
Materials and Tools
The Palm Slipover is knitted using Rowan Pure Cashmere yarn in a 50-gram weight. The pattern is photographed in the colorway Light 095. Construction requires one pair of 4mm (US 6) needles. A 20 cm closed zip is needed for assembly. The pattern specifies a tension of 22 stitches and 30 rows to 10 centimeters measured over stockinette stitch using the 4mm needles, which is essential for achieving the correct finished measurements.
Pattern Structure
The Palm Slipover is constructed using a back-and-front method with separate pieces. The back is worked first, establishing the stitch patterns and shaping. The front is worked similarly until the point where the neckline is divided, at which stage each shoulder is shaped independently. The pattern includes detailed row-by-row instructions for neck decreases and shoulder cast-offs that vary by size. A collar is picked up from held stitches and worked in ribbing to finish the neckline. The making-up section involves pressing the pieces and assembling the garment with the zip closure.
