This is a substantial rectangular shawl measuring 68 centimeters wide (26¾ inches) and 208 centimeters (82 inches) long, making it a generous wrap suitable for layering or draping. The finished dimensions create a versatile accessory that works as both a decorative wrap and a functional garment for warmth.

Craft and Difficulty Level

This is an intermediate-level knitting project. While the pattern introduces specialized techniques, the structured approach and clear row-by-row instructions make it accessible to knitters with foundational skills who are ready to expand their technical repertoire. The pattern uses a downloadable PDF format for easy reference during the knitting process.

Techniques and Stitches Used

Perry features tuck stitch patterning as the primary construction method. This technique creates textural depth and visual interest through strategic yarn manipulation. The pattern employs several specialized brioche-inspired stitches that build on basic knitting fundamentals:

• Sl1yo (slip one yarn over) - A foundational slip stitch variation where the working yarn is positioned under the needle to the front of the work, the next stitch is slipped purlwise, and the yarn is brought over the needle and over the slipped stitch to the back, positioning the yarn to work the following knit stitch. This stitch is worked following knit stitches.
• Sl1yo following purl stitches - A variation of the above where the working yarn is already positioned in front. The stitch is slipped purlwise, the yarn is brought over the needle and over the slipped stitch, then returned to the front under the needle into position for the following purl stitch.
• Sl11yo (slip one with double yarn over) - An advanced variation where the stitch is slipped with its yarn over purlwise while simultaneously making a second yarn over, creating a double yarn over structure.
• Brk1 (brioche knit) - The stitch that was slipped in the previous row is knitted together with its yarn over, creating a lifted stitch effect characteristic of brioche knitting.
• Brk12 (brioche knit with double yarn overs) - The slipped stitch is knitted together with its two yarn overs, extending the brioche technique to accommodate the double yarn over structure.
• Brp12 (brioche purl with double yarn overs) - The stitch is purled together with its two yarn overs, providing the purl-side equivalent of the brioche knit technique.

The tuck stitch pattern repeats across 8 rows and is worked multiple times throughout the wrap. The pattern alternates between working rows in different yarn colors, with specific rows designated as right-side or wrong-side rows. The construction involves sliding stitches to the other end of the needle to reverse the working direction, a technique that allows for seamless color changes and pattern continuity without cutting yarn.

Yarn and Materials

Perry is knitted using Alpaca Cotton yarn from MODE at Rowan, a blend that combines the softness of alpaca with the breathability and structure of cotton. Three colorways are used in the wrap:

• Yarn A: Dahlia 020 - 5 balls of 50 grams each
• Yarn B: Soft Satin 017 - 5 balls of 50 grams each
• Yarn C: Sierra Melange 016 - 4 balls of 50 grams each

The pattern calls for one pair of 5mm (US size 8) circular needles. Circular needles are used here not for working in the round, but rather for their length capacity, which accommodates the substantial stitch count required for the wrap's width.

Tension and Gauge

The pattern specifies a tension of 15 stitches and 30 rows to 10 centimeters, measured over the tuck stitch pattern using 5mm (US 8) needles. Achieving the correct gauge is essential for obtaining the finished dimensions and ensuring the wrap drapes appropriately.
