What is Being Made

The Rowan Hattie is an intermediate-level knitted scarf measuring approximately 28 cm wide and 187 cm long. This design features a sophisticated two-part construction with a decorative pointed end, combining stockinette stitch sections with patterned knit work to create visual interest along the length of the accessory.

Construction and Techniques

The scarf is constructed in two distinct parts. The first part begins with a provisional cast-on of 61 stitches, establishing a foundation for the design. The pattern employs strategic decreasing techniques, reducing stitches on alternating rows to shape the initial section. After completing the first part, stitches are carefully unraveled from the provisional cast-on edge and transferred back onto needles to work the second part in the opposite direction, creating a seamless integration between sections.

The second part features a charted pattern worked from a grid, repeating rows 1 through 32 seven times, followed by rows 33 through 40. This structured approach allows for consistent patterning across the scarf's length. The pointed formation at the end is achieved through additional decreasing sequences, with stitches reduced on consecutive rows and then every two rows until only one stitch remains, which is then fastened off.
