Techniques Used

Stitches Used

Each color is used in 50-gram balls. The pattern requires 4½mm (US 7) needles for the ribbed cuff section and 5mm (US 8) needles for the main body and patterned sections. The needle size increase allows the stockinette stitch to drape appropriately once the ribbed edge is complete.
Pattern Construction Details
The coat is worked from the bottom up, beginning with a double cast-on of 105 to 177 stitches depending on size. After the ribbed cuff, stitches are increased evenly across the final rib row in select sizes to prepare for the larger gauge of the main body. The back piece is worked straight until it reaches approximately 92.5 to 106.5 cm in length, at which point back neck shaping is introduced. The neck is shaped by binding off stitches and working each shoulder separately, with decreases worked at the neck edge to create a fitted neckline. Shoulders are then cast off in stages to create the proper slope for a structured coat silhouette.
