Product Description
Rowan Air Sweater from Tweed Haze is a snuggly soft women’s turtleneck pullover with dropped shoulder sleeves and a wrap that uses a stripe pattern by retaining one color all the way along and interchanging the second color as you work. The fast knit sweater and wrap are knit flat from the bottom up. Air Sweater is then seamed together. Tweed Haze is perfect for a lightweight jumper or cozy scarf. This yarn just might become your go-to fun yarn!

Rowan 08 & 09 Air Sweater and Wrap
Air Sweater
What is Being Made: The Air Sweater is a knitted pullover garment designed by Lisa Richardson, available in nine size options to fit bust measurements ranging from 71-76 cm (28-30 inches) up to 152-157 cm (60-62 inches). The sweater features a classic construction with a shaped back, front, and sleeves, with finished bust measurements from 104 cm to 186 cm depending on the selected size.
Techniques Used: This intermediate-level knitting project employs fundamental garment construction techniques including cast-on, ribbed edging, stocking stitch (stockinette stitch) for the main body, color work through a repeating stripe sequence, and structured shaping at the shoulders and back neck. The pattern requires joining and breaking off colors as needed throughout the stripe pattern, demonstrating basic color-work management without the complexity of stranded or intarsia techniques.
Stitches Used: The primary stitches featured in this sweater are:
- Rib stitch: A 2x2 rib (knit 2, purl 2 pattern) is worked for the lower edge, creating elasticity and a finished appearance
- Stocking stitch (stockinette stitch): Alternating rows of knit and purl stitches form the main fabric of the sweater body, creating a smooth, classic knit appearance
Construction Details: The back piece begins with a cast-on of 54 to 94 stitches depending on size. After working 10 rows of 2x2 rib (with strategic increases or decreases on the final rib row), the knitter changes to larger needles and continues in stocking stitch. The sweater is worked straight until the back measures between 76.5 and 90.5 cm, at which point shoulder shaping and back neck shaping are introduced through strategic cast-offs.
Materials: The Air Sweater is worked using Rowan Tweed Haze yarn in a five-color striped sequence. The yarn is held as one strand each of two colors together, creating a blended effect. The color palette includes Tweed Haze Winter (yarn A), Clear Blue 551 (yarn B), Setting Sun 555 (yarn C), Rainy 552 (yarn D), and Sunset 557 (yarn E). Yardage requirements vary by size, ranging from 550 grams to 650 grams total. The pattern specifies 8mm (US size 11) needles for the ribbed cuff and 9mm (US size 13) needles for the main body in stocking stitch.
Air Wrap
What is Being Made: Accompanying the Air Sweater pattern is a coordinating wrap designed to complement the sweater collection. The finished wrap measures 48 cm (19 inches) in width and 200 cm (78¾ inches) in length, making it a generous rectangular accessory suitable for layering or draping.
Materials and Colorway: The wrap is worked in a coordinating colorway using Rowan Tweed Haze yarn. The specified colorway includes Storm 556 (yarn A) and requires 5 x 50-gram balls of yarn, providing ample yardage for the full length and width of the completed accessory.
This downloadable PDF pattern from Rowan provides intermediate knitters with a complete design system, allowing crafters to create a coordinated sweater and wrap set using the same premium yarn and complementary color palettes.
